When God Uses His Children

There is nothing more important when we’re struggling with one thing or another than to turn to the Lord and to the Bible for His love, mercy, grace, strength, wisdom, and discernment, but don’t discount how vitally important it is also if, when, and as the Lord leads us to reach out to His children for their love, help, support, encouragement, and prayer as we go forth. God uses His children in this way whenever He so chooses however He desires wherever He desires according to His will for His glory. One day I had the most wonderful experience of God using His children when it came to three different struggles I faced simultaneously.

Within 24 hours, I shared my heart with three sisters in the Lord who are strongly grounded in the Bible and in prayer. They listened, they loved, they encouraged, and promised to pray. I had already sought the Lord again and again regarding my struggles but had a strong sense I needed more freedom. Something wasn’t quite right, and I yearned for the Lord to lead me to the answer. He did just that, and He used my dear sisters in the Lord to bring me the freedom I needed not merely for my peace of mind but most importantly so I could press on loving and serving Him and fulfilling His will for my life. How thankful I was! For the Lord, first and foremost. And for His provision of three sisters in Christ to walk alongside me as I pressed forward in my life’s journey following Jesus.

Friend, may the Lord always be your number one love, your number one priority, and your number one person to whom you go when you are in need. And may you reach out to His followers for their love, help, encouragement, support, and prayer as He so leads you. Be thankful to the Lord for Himself and for His children and for how He uses those of us who follow Him to love and bless and help one another in His name for His glory, AMEN!

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” 1 Thess. 5:11

I Don’t Want to Love Them!

The Lord’s two greatest commands are about LOVE! Loving Him and loving others! Now when it comes to loving others, we have a great challenge. His commandment to love others as ourselves is NOT contingent on our emotions. Nor is it contingent on them and how they act and what they say or do and how they treat us and others and what choices they make and whether they make us happy or mad, please us or infuriate us, whether they love us in return or are nasty to us, etc. The commandment to love others is contingent on the Lord Jesus Christ! And He will supply us by His Spirit who lives inside His followers with the love to love others!

We need to be very careful when it comes to our feelings, friend. Our emotions can work very hard to try to convince us to NOT love certain people at least at certain times as though our emotions are in charge of our lives! Ever have thoughts like these?

“There is no way I will love that person!”
“That person just hurt me. Forget about loving him!”
“I’ll never forgive him. No way will I love her!”
“That person doesn’t deserve my love!”
“I’m not in the mood for loving those people. I have better things to do!”
“She is too difficult to love. So what that God tells us to love! I ain’t doing it!”
“That person is my enemy! Love is out of the question!”
“I won’t ever love again. Not after what I’ve been through.”
“I don’t feel like loving others!”
“I’m afraid to love people. I know I’ll get hurt!”

Friend, our feelings are not to rule and reign in our lives. We are not to bow down to them and obey them. We are to humble ourselves before God almighty and obey Him in all things – including when it comes to loving others.

Love others in obedience to Christ, friend. No matter what your emotions have to say about it!

Father, oh God, this is so, so, so hard sometimes! Sometimes it seems so impossible to love certain people! But I know for sure, Father, that you will help us to do whatever you tell us to do. So help us to love, dear Lord! No matter what our feelings cry out to us! Help us to cry out to you for help in this! And help us to walk in your love, oh Lord! AMEN!

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2

“And the second is like it: ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’” Matthew 22:39

They’re Getting Away With It!

Ever get upset, irritated, disturbed, disgruntled, raging mad, concerned, self-pitying, maybe even jealous, etc. when you see people doing stuff that’s wrong and watch them get away with it? How come they never have negative consequences? How come they never get arrested? How come their friends and family never realize what they’re doing? Why do their lives look so easy and good despite what they’re doing? Why does the media never bring to light what they’re doing? How come everyone around them is clueless about their wrongdoing? How come even God is letting them get away with it? Ever have those kind of thoughts and feelings? I confess to you I get upset about this kind of thing sometimes, and this is what the Lord reminds me:

• We should make sure we continually purify our hearts and get out of them anything sinful which includes pride, jealous, anger, judgment, etc. We should also repent for anything that comes out of our mouths or anything in our actions we do in response and/or relation to others’ wrongdoing
• We are not to judge and condemn
• We are to love and forgive and be merciful
• Vengeance belongs to Him not us
• He sees everything everyone does wrong
• We will all stand before God’s judgment seat and have to give an account of our lives them included
• Those who do not repent on this earth and turn to Christ as Lord and believe in His death and resurrection will spend forever in hell and the lake of fire for eternity apart from Him no matter what they or we think they are getting away with on this earth
• Those who follow Jesus on this earth but are caught up in wrongdoing still need to repent and can lose out on rewards God promises His followers in heaven
• We should seek the Lord to see if He desires to use us to pray for the people, talk to the people about Him, confront them in love with the truth about Christ, point them to the Bible, encourage them to turn to Him, etc.
• We should look at our own hearts and lives and make changes we need to make and repent in the areas of our lives we need repentance regardless of what others do and don’t do
• We need to focus on the Lord and the Bible and God’s will for our lives and not on them. We need to return our focus to Him when we find our focus has once again drifted away

Friend, I believe there is more than this. This is just the beginning. This is just some of what the Lord leads me to consider when I find myself being upset about others’ wrongdoing. The rest? Read the Bible daily as I do, and may the Lord lead you to it!

Perhaps you will be led to look up the Bible verses that go with the list I have shared with you here. And I hope you will pray about this. May we be careful to not get caught up in this as I so often have. May we be careful instead to be caught up in loving the Lord and loving others as ourselves and going forth on the pathway the Lord sets before us!

Father, please forgive all of us for when we allow ourselves to be consumed with others’ sins. Please, God, help us to walk according to your ways. Lord, help us to trust you to deal with people who are doing wrong. May we not be prideful, dear Lord. We all need your forgiveness. Lead us to repentance concerning this when we need it. And, Lord, for every person around the world caught up in wrongdoing, please dear God, lead them to repentance and faith in you as Lord. And please use us as your laborers to go out and point others to you, dear God. For you are Lord forever! Our only hope! Thank you, Lord, for helping us with this. AMEN!

“Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.” Romans 14:4

“And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:41-42

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.” Romans 12:19

“Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good…Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass…Do not fret—it only causes harm. For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous. The LORD knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever…But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the LORD, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away…I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,…For the LORD loves justice,…” Psalm 37:1-28

I encourage you to read the whole Psalm 37 in the Bible and to make the commitment I did some years ago to read the Bible daily no matter what – and to live by it!

Purify Yourself!

When the Lord placed on my heart to write a message called, “Purify yourself!”, I didn’t think much of it. I have written many times over the years about how we must purify ourselves for the Lord. It was at the end of a long and blessed day in ministry work that I began searching for some verses. I was shocked by the ones to which the Lord led me! Isn’t it amazing how we can read the Bible daily for years and still discover more and more and learn and grow more and more and draw closer to the Lord increasingly? Imagine my surprise when I found this in the verses to which He led me.

The obvious is that we need to continually purify our lives by repenting and turning away from any and all wrongdoing as we go through our lives as the Lord’s children. But in the scriptures you will find below, the Lord showed me over and again His call for us to PURIFY OUR HEARTS! Because He desires we have PURE HEARTS! In the Bible, per Strong’s concordance, the word heart in the New Testament comes from a Greek word also signifying “thoughts and feelings.” Oh my!

We are called by God to purify our thoughts and feelings! Why? So they are pleasing and honoring to the Lord! We are then to love from PURE HEARTS! And to live from PURE HEARTS! What happens when our hearts get clogged up with sin such as pride, anger, hurt, bitterness, envy, judgment, condemnation, criticism, negativity, worry, fear, revenge, etc.? The space inside us that should be occupied by the Spirit of God and the Word of God and thoughts and feelings honoring to the Lord is taken up with sin! How can the love and blessedness of Christ pour into and through us and out onto the world around us when our hearts are clogged up with the impurities of sin? Oh, but how we cut off the supply of Christ’s love altogether or at the very least diminish it some or even greatl! We need our hearts to be pure for Jesus!

Friend, purify your heart AND your life! Continually! My Dad whom I dearly love is a retired kidney doctor. As a child, I saw people hooked up to dialysis machines to get all the toxins out of their bodies as best I understand it anyway. Why? So their bodies would work properly! Just like we need to rid ourselves of all the toxins of sin so our hearts and lives work the way they were intended – in a manner glorifying to the Lord!

Father, teach us to purify ourselves ongoingly. Is that a word, Lord? Ongoingly? I don’t know. But you know what I mean! I know, Lord, once in a while is not enough to purify ourselves. Once a week at the altar in a church building is not adequate. A ritual of once at the end of each day is not sufficient. May we purify ourselves on an ongoing basis, Lord. Whenever the need arises, lead us to repentance. Remind us to do what we need to do. To purify our hearts for you, dear Father. AMEN!

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:7-8

“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” 1 Timothy 1:5

“Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2:22

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Phil. 4:8
