A Farm Fresh Blessing from Above

The Lord’s blessings keep pouring down from heaven – and from the ground up. Just this morning, I took my only bag of frozen veggies out of my freezer to supplement the tiny amount of fresh fruits and vegetables I had left. I live a simple life with a super simple – and crazily tight – budget as I pursue the Lord and His calling for my life.

This morning, I plunked the veggies in the sink to thaw and headed off on my usual morning walk with the wheelchair doggies down my little dirt road. I couldn’t help but admire the farm just across the street from me, so unusually placed amid a mostly suburban area. Wasn’t it just days, or weeks ago, that my neighbor was plowing the field in preparation for planting?

Not so long ago I would have been too consumed with the cares of my life, and with my tendency to overlook “little blessings”, to have noticed what I saw this morning – a magnificent harvest of fresh produce straight from heaven, risen proudly and magnificently from the glorious earth the Lord created.

Only last night I wrote of how awestruck I was that a little bird had moved into my doggie building with four of the Walk by Faith Ministry doggies – along with her nest. The Lord’s beauty is ever abounding on this earth, and yet I have missed so much of it until only recently when I broken free from the past and entered into the abundant life the Lord has for me.

As I made my way down the rest of the little dirt road with paralyzed doggie Mr. Simeon in his wheelchair, I had no idea what God had in store. Mr. Simeon and I made our big u-turn, not such a small feat for a wheelchair doggie, and we made our leisurely way back toward home – passing the farm along the way. Within minutes, I ran into my neighbor – with a very special blessing in hand.

“Do you like squash?” he said in his simple, kind way.

“I love all vegetables,” I probably replied, because truly I do. I love fruits and veggies beyond imagination.

“Here’s some vegetables for you,” he said as he handed me a bag filled with fresh veggies.

How could he have known about my frozen veggies? How could he have known about my budget? How could he have known that I had just walked by his farm and marveled at the beauty of the Lord at work from the ground up? Of course he could not have known. But I know who did – and who does.

The Lord did, and He does. And the Lord, in His never-ending love, and His never-ending mercy, with His gracious provision, was in His own way telling me once more:

Carry on child. Do the work I have given you. Know I will provide. I am here with you. I am leading the way. You need only trust. You have loved me. You have served me. You continue in your mission that I have given you. Do not stop. Hold on. Let me show you what I want you to do. Most importantly, rest in knowing this. I love you.

For anyone who wonders, I live a life of total abundance. Despite my baby budget, the Lord blesses me beyond measure with provision beyond anything I could even ask or imagine. So long as I follow Jesus and apply the Word to my life, so long as I pursue the things of God rather than the things of man, I am blessed from above beyond description. All glory to God!

15You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; 16for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. 17Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. 18But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. 19And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4: 15-19 NASB
