How can you know if your pastor is teaching God’s Truth? Measure what he teaches against the Bible. Study the Bible not only because we are called to study and live by it, but so that you can discern between the Truth and what is false. A woman shared with me once her pastor is a good pastor. She seemed to think her pastor is a good pastor because he uses Bible verses when he preaches. The devil used Bible verses when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. False teaching can be incredibly subtle. Some false teachers will use part of God’s Truth and leave out the rest. God’s Truth needs to be taught in its entirety.
The Truth of God’s Word isn’t about fancy sermons and quoting Bible verses. It’s about teaching the Truth. And there’s only one full-proof way to know if that’s what your pastor is preaching. Study the Truth. Let your mind be renewed by it (Romans 12:2). Let your life be transformed by it (Romans 12:2). And test what you hear to see if it’s God’s Truth.
Jer 6:13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Jer 6:14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
Jer 10:21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
