Serving Others With Love

“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 NKJV

Many years ago, when I was doing lots and lots of dog rescue work and was much earlier on in my ministry work, I was blessed to attend a church service primarily for people who were homeless and very poor. After the service, the congregation would attend a free breakfast where I had the privilege of handing out my Gospel tracts and little devotional pocket-sized booklets I wrote.

One time, a woman bitterly and resentfully rudely accused me of throwing my booklets at the people as though I were throwing food at my dogs. In all honesty, though I absolutely had not intended to do this, I was distributing my writing to the people without love and respect. And I needed to be scolded and set straight.

God does not only call us to serve one another. He calls us to serve one another with love. In the Bible verse above, we are told that the freedom we are given through the Lord Jesus Christ should be used to serve one another THROUGH LOVE!

Oh, dear Father, forgive us for any time we have not served others when you called us to do so. And for every time we have served others without your love. Teach and help us dear God to lovingly serve one another! Hallelujah, oh Lord, AMEN!
