“You’ll never amount to anything.” I already have, mind you.
“Look at that fat on your leg.” Numerous people have confronted me lately about my need to gain weight thanks to the return of a yucky eating disorder.
“You’ll never write books.” I have already written and published one.
“You’re divorced, loser. You’ll always be alone.” I’ll never be alone. I have Jesus.
“There’s something wrong with your mind. You need help.” The problem with my mind is the devil keeps attacking it – and I keep listening to his lies. I will always need help. I have it. His name is Jesus.
So what’s the problem if I have a good argument against everything the devil keeps telling me? The trouble is that I usually don’t have any argument at all. I usually sit and listen, meditate on everything he has to say to me, and get myself in a real icky bind – to say the very least.
But not tonight. Tonight I decided to talk back to the devil. The Bible doesn’t just admonish me to use my shield of faith. The Bible calls me to use other weapons also. Just check out Ephesians 6. So tonight I whipped out my sword and used a scripture. It shut the devil right up – at least for the moment.
Now, for a moment of sheer humor. I cannot find the scripture I used on the devil. It may have shut him up, but now I cannot find it. Oh, well. Suffice it to say I remembered to talk back to the devil. I just can’t find in the Bible what I said.
Do you remember what Jesus did in the wilderness when the devil attacked and tempted Him? Did Jesus sit there and listen, or did He do something to set an example for us? Jesus talked back to the devil. He used verses from the Bible to put the devil in his place. And, unlike me as I sleepily finish off this article, Jesus most assuredly remembered what He said to the devil.
Bottom line? Learn from my mistake. Don’t sit around listening to the devil. Put him where he belongs – crushed under your feet.
Luk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
