Your Good Deeds Aren’t Good Enough

0
Your good deeds aren’t good enough. And if you think I’m not serious, you’re wrong. I’m entirely serious. In fact, let me go a step further. You can do all the good deeds in the world from the next breath you take for the rest of your life, and I can promise you this. Your good deeds will never be enough. Talk about discouraging, huh? Especially for those who invest endless energy into doing so-called good deeds. So what’s the deal? Here’s the deal. And it’s two-fold. So before you stop doing good deeds, please hear me out. We CANNOT earn our way to God’s love with good deeds. And we CANNOT earn our way to heaven with good deeds. We are all sinners who fall short of God’s glory. Then why should we bother with good deeds at all?

Here is why. Because God loves us so much He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to the cross to die for our sins so if we repent and believe the Gospel we will be saved from God’s wrath and promised everlasting life. We can’t earn our way to God. Jesus paid the way to God for us. Then why bother with good deeds? Because though no amount of good deeds can earn  God’s forgiveness and the promise of forever with Him in heaven instead of hell, we should spend our lives doing good deeds as a RESULT of God’s love for us, His forgiveness of our sins, and His redemption plan that allows us through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and a life committed to following Him to spend now and forever with Him!

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
