90-Day Money-Back Guaranty

90-Day Money-Back Guaranty

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10

When I heard the leadership at a mega-church that had recently expanded into my area had apparently for the third year in a row promised the congregation to refund 100% of the people’s financial tithes if they were not blessed within 90 days of giving them, I wasn’t shocked given the times in which we live and how rampant evil is even right up and down so many church pews. But I was grieved, deeply. While millions of dollars were apparently pouring into the church coffers, or perhaps the leadership’s wallets and pocketbooks, or maybe the beauty of the church’s buildings, or perhaps those in need, or some combination, only God knows, I couldn’t help but think of how deceived the people were. This wasn’t about money, was it? It was about blessings. For the message being given to these people didn’t seem to be about God. It seemed to be about God’s goods. About the stuff. About material blessings. Oh, and if God didn’t come through on His end of the deal, well, I suppose the people could haul Him into the returns counter and stand in line with the rest of the shoppers and turn Him back in. My heart aches at the thought of it.

What would happen after 90 days of tithing? What would happen if people felt they weren’t “blessed” enough? What if they didn’t get promotions at work, raises, win the lottery, get gifts galore, receive free stuff, win prizes, well, what if? Then they could get their money back. That was the purpose of the giving, wasn’t it? To get stuff from God.

How can anyone possibly measure the blessings of the Lord? What greater blessing in the universe is there than the Lord Himself? Than spending forever with God in heaven by repenting, believing in Christ, and following Him. Than God giving up His only begotten Son Jesus to go to the cross for us. Than Jesus dying an indescribably heinous death on the cross to pay our sin penalty so we could believe in Him and be forgiven and devote our lives to God forever. Than intimacy with God. Than knowing God’s love forever. Than being given the honor and privilege of glorifying Him for all of time. Than receiving His mercy. Than His precious Word. Than being filled with and led by His Spirit. Than bowing down before Him and worshipping Him for eternity. Than knowing His peace, hope, and comfort. Than loving Him forever. God doesn’t need our money. He wants our repentance, faith, hearts, lives, devotion, praise, and obedience.

Is there any more beautiful and precious blessing than loving and serving and worshiping the Lord for eternity?
