No matter how much we might want to think of ourselves as friends of God, it’s not as simple as singing happy songs in church and waving our hands in the air. Nor is at as easy as simply saying we believe in God. For the Lord Himself has something to say about who are His friends. And if anyone should know who God’s friends are, He should.
Jesus Christ makes it abundantly clear in the Bible that those who love Him and are His friends obey His commands. They obey His words. They obey His sayings.

What about God, our Father in heaven? Who does God consider His friends to be? Abraham was called a friend of God. Why? Because Abraham didn’t just believe in God. Abraham acted on his faith. He was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac as an act of love and obedience. His faith was perfected by his willingness to obey. Though God ultimately provided a ram for the sacrifice so Isaac’s life was spared, Abraham was justified by his faith which was demonstrated in love and obedience.
