Beautiful Love: God’s Chastening

0

The last thing in the world you might think about when God is chastening you and bringing correction and calling you to repent for sin into which you have fallen is His beautiful love. His magnificent love. His phenomenal love. His extravagant love. His breathtaking love. His kind love. His tender love. His merciful love. His humble love. His gentle love. His compassionate love. His caring love. His sweet love. His endearing love. His embracing love. His healing love. His satisfying love. His unfathomable love. His precious love. His priceless love. His protective love. His perfect Father love. His sovereign love. His powerful love. His love, love, love, oh, His beautiful love!

Friend, God chastens His beloved children in His beautiful love for us! Those of us who have repented, believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, who have truly dedicated our lives to God and His ways, are forgiven and given everlasting life with Him instead of hell and the lake of fire in forever torment. We receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and enter into a forever relationship with Him. Our sins are washed away, we are born again spiritually, and for the rest of our lives on this earth we are grown by God in His glorious image, conformed by His Spirit to Him, refined by Him, purified by Him, and chastened by our perfect heavenly Father when we get off course and need to return to Him.

We are immeasurably blessed with enjoying forever with Jesus, and the Lord works on, in, and through us by His Holy Spirit as we go forth in this life on earth. This includes His chastening borne of His beautiful love for us as He brings necessary correction and perfects His will and ways in us.

Our blessed, loving, almighty, merciful Father in heaven does this so we “partake” of His holiness and bear the fruit of righteous living. We are not to resist and hate and rebel against the Lord and His chastening. We are to respond to His chastening with humility, with true sorrow over our sins, a desire for forgiveness, and a yearning and resolve to turn from our sins to Him and His will and ways. Not in our weakness, but in His strength. Please read these verses, meditate on them, and rejoice in the truth of them. Then please continue on with this message!

“You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM; FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:4-11

Note the reference to “HIS holiness” (bold added). We do not become holy of our own. The Spirit of Christ lives inside His followers. Jesus lives in us, and Jesus lives through us. Thereby do we “partake” of His holiness and righteousness and His love and mercy and grace and peace and joy and power and strength!

So it is we may blessedly go forth living the life He has ordained for us in a manner pleasing and honoring and glorifying to Him!

Instead of despising God’s chastening, let us be thankful for His beautiful love of which it is birthed! Hallelujah!
