Beyond Help & Hope

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

I reached a point in my life I believed I was beyond help and hope. I believe others around me, professionals included, believed the same. I was utterly broken by my own sin, by the sin of others, by childhood sex abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, alcoholism, an eating disorder, major depression, incapacitating anxiety, being kicked out of my family for talking about being sexually abused, self-mutilation, being abandoned by two husbands, other tragedies and losses, and the list goes on. No matter how much I reached out for help, and for hope, it was either utterly out of reach or fleeting. The truth is I was beyond help and hope. Beyond human help. And beyond human help.

But the Lord in His unfathomable love, matchless mercy, indescribable grace, immeasurable compassion, and unbelievable patience, wooed me, drew me to Himself, saved me, rescued me, redeemed me, helped me, gave me eternal hope, in Him, and by His Spirit, through His Word, began in me a life-long work of changing me from a broken, useless, beyond help and beyond hope woman headed initially for hell and the lake of fire to a woman forgiven, given eternal life, given a forever amazingly awesome personal relationship with Christ, with purpose, with love, joy, peace, and passion, being changed day by day to become more like Him, and closer to Him.

Perhaps you who read this now believe you are beyond help and hope, or perhaps you know someone who thinks this way and might be led to pass this message on. The only one who is truly beyond help and hope is the one who rejects the most precious gift in the universe, the gift offered to us all, no matter how broken we are, the gift of Christ and an everlasting relationship with God through the work Jesus Christ did on the cross, dying for the sins and sin penalty of this world, bearing God’s wrath at all humans who are all sinners upon Himself, and being raised to life, that all who repent and believe He is Lord and died on the cross and was raised from the dead, genuinely committing their lives to Him, turning away from this world and its wicked ways to God and His ways, are forgiven and given a forever relationship with Him. There is help in Jesus Christ, and there is hope in Jesus Christ. Help and hope to which no human help and no human hope can compare.

When we repent and receive Christ as Lord of our lives, truly surrendering ourselves to God and His Word, to His will and ways, willing to forsake all for Him, no matter how hard to the flesh it is for us to die to self and to live for Christ, we receive the help and hope we all need and we begin the lifelong journey of following Jesus. Please do not believe you are too far gone. You are not too far gone for the help and hope Christ offers, so long as you are willing to repent and surrender all to Him.

May today, may this very moment, for you, or for someone you know, mark a new beginning. Commit, dedicate, devote, give, surrender, submit, relinquish, turn over, yield, offer up your heart and your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, not just believing He is Lord but living your life accordingly, day by day, and know the help and hope He died on the cross for us to have.

Now I am glad no human help and no human hope was sufficient, for in Christ I have found the greatest love, the greatest mercy, the greatest help and hope, the greatest satisfaction and fulfillment, the greatest treasure and joy and pleasure, the greatest peace and light, the greatest lordship and friendship and fellowship, the greatest wisdom and direction and comfort and intimacy, the greatest everything I have ever known, and this, my friend, rather than being fleeting is because of God almighty’s unfathomable love, it is forever! May you become Christ’s, truly His, all His, and may He forever be yours!
