“I can’t see anything,” I essentially told the Lord.
I knew what He wanted me to do next in life and ministry. I had prayed my heart out about a certain matter, and God had made Himself abundantly clear. But no matter how much I prayed, and no matter how hard I tried to do my part, when I “looked” at my circumstances, I couldn’t “see” any possibility of God’s will coming to pass. I couldn’t “see” any possibility of change, progress, accomplishment, success, victory, not anything at all, etc. I felt stuck, frustrated, discouraged, and I was filled with self-pity and worry. Sin all needing to be gotten rid of.
God’s response? He reminded me of a beautiful woman in ministry with her husband whom I had met at my latest hotel on the road for Jesus. She and her husband were facing a trial beyond belief. Her health issues were worse than imaginable. Her body was in a shambles. Things seemed to be getting worse and worse. Just in the week I had known her, she had gone blind. And now God was reminding me how she walked down the hotel hallway after her latest hospital visit less than a week after going blind.
“Could she see anything walking down the hallway?” God asked me.
“No, she kept walking,” I replied to the Lord.
Amazingly, her heart and mouth filled with love, peace, hope, joy, and praise despite her unfathomable trial, she walked without her husband’s help to her hotel room. And right before going to her room after I prayed for her and her husband, SHE PRAYED FOR ME with great love and fire!
Now God was pointing something out to me!
“This is exactly what I want you to do,” the Lord essentially spoke to my heart.
“Even when you can’t see anything,” He told me. “Follow my voice.”
“Trust in me and go where I am sending you,” He continued.
When I remarked how she walked by faith in Him with trust, faith, joy, hope, and thanksgiving, the Lord spoke to me.
“You need to have the same,” He said.
“Get rid of the self-pity. Get rid of the complaining. Get rid of the doubt. None of this pleases me,” He told me.
“Put your trust in me and keep walking,” the Lord said. “I will lead you. Follow me.”
Friend, I wonder if you are as humbled, inspired, and challenged hearing about this beautiful newly blind woman with unbelievable health challenges and God’s words to me as I am.
Let us look to the Lord, put our trust in Him, and with love, hope, joy, and thanksgiving keep walking forward as He by His Holy Spirit lovingly and mercifully leads the way! Amen!
