But God, I’m Scared

One of the greatest lessons I have learned about fear is this. We may FEEL fear, but we can choose NOT to ACT on fear. Our actions should be based on the Lord and His will for us, not on feelings of fear. But we don’t need to wait until the feeling of fear is gone for us to act according to the Lord’s will. We can go forward following Jesus DESPITE the feeling of fear. The feeling of fear may go away. The feeling of fear may not go away. We can have victory over the feeling of fear by LIVING – including ACTING – by faith instead of fear.

Let me give you an example. I’m on the road for Jesus full-time, and it can be really scary at 50-something years old as a single woman with handicapped ministry doggies and a super old car to go from place to place many of those places of which I have never been and stay in hotels I know nothing about other than what I have seen on the Internet or heard about on the phone. I CHOOSE to pray, listen, and follow Jesus even when I FEEL fear. I don’t wait until the fear is gone to CHOOSE to go forward. Sometimes the FEELING of fear goes away before I step out in faith. Sometimes it doesn’t. Either way, I go because Jesus is calling.

Father God, help us to walk by faith and not to walk by fear. Help us to make our decisions according to your will and not bow down to our flesh and how we feel. Forgive us when we fall into fear, Lord, and help us to leave fear behind as we learn day by day to faithfully and humbly follow you. AMEN!

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Cor. 5:7
