Can God Really Use Me? Ever wondered this? Wondering it now? Ever thought anything like this? No way! God can’t use someone like me! I’m not smart enough! I don’t know enough about the Bible! I’m too old! I’m too young! I’m too sick! I’m too busy! My resume isn’t good enough! I’ve failed at too much! I don’t have a good enough attention span! I’ve never succeeded at anything, not really! There are a zillion other people out there whom God can really use so why would He want to use a loser like me? I’m too afraid to take any risks! I’m too afraid I’ll disappoint God!
The reasons, the excuses, the justifications, they go on and on for some of us, don’t they? Why God can’t use us. Or, more accurately, why we THINK and BELIEVE and CONVINCE OURSELVES and allow OTHERS TO CONVINCE US and allow THE DEVIL TO CONVINCE US that God can’t – and doesn’t want to – and could never – and will never – ever use us! Sound familiar? Can you relate to any, or all, of this? Or know someone else, or others, who can? Then please listen.
God commands ALL OF US to LOVE HIM, to LOVE OTHERS, and to WORSHIP, OBEY, and SERVE HIM. He wants ALL OF US to spend now and forever with Him in heaven by receiving the gift of His forgiveness of our sins and the promise of everlasting life when we repent of our sins and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty for us so when we give our lives to Jesus we don’t have to spend forever in hell and the lake of fire.
If we are ALL commanded to LOVE HIM and to SERVE HIM, then of course He can use ALL of us. God’s followers are God’s adopted children are God’s beloved servants are God’s chosen vessels such that HIS SPIRIT seals us for eternity with Him and lives inside His kids and empowers and enables and equips us and gives us gifts and the ability and the love, power, and strength to be used by Him when we receive the baptism of His Spirit and continual fillings of His Spirit which we can ask for!
God doesn’t command us to do something He doesn’t give us the ability to do! He gives us the ability by His Spirit and with His Word! He lives inside us, His followers, so He can use us as His instruments to help build His Kingdom of followers and help our brothers and sisters in Christ to grow in God’s image and to show the world His love and in all that we do to bring Him glory!
He gives us EVERYTHING we need to serve Him! EVERYTHING we need for Him to use us! Right down to His love, compassion, mercy, hope, joy, peace, understanding of the Bible, fellow followers to walk and fellowship and work alongside, encouragement, instructions, wisdom, direction, leadership, His Body to serve with, opportunities, strength, forgiveness, chastening when we need it, correction as we need it, courage, physical provision for us and those we serve, comfort for us and those we serve, and on and on and on.
The devil wants to convince us God can’t use us. Our flesh buys into the lie God can’t use us. Others sometimes discourage us and try to tell us God can’t use us. If we find ourselves paralyzed in fear, discouragement, self-centeredness, temptations and debilitating sin, whatever it may be that keeps us from believing we can be used by God, and/or from wanting to be used by God, from serving God not just once, nor just once in a while, but continually as an act of love, obedience, and worship, we need to rebuke the lies, repent of any sin, and run to the Master’s feet and seek His face and open His Word and listen for His voice and ask for the baptism of the Holy Spirit if we have not received it and ask for a fresh filling of God’s Spirit if we need one and trust God has a plan and a purpose for us right down to the very details on this very day of how He wants to use us to bring Him glory!
Oh, hallelujah! Let NOTHING, and NOBODY, stop you from being used by God – now, and always! Amen!
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. John 12:26
If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. – 1 Peter 4:11
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!…– Luke 11:13
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” – Luke 24:49
