Coffee Anyone?
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation [behavior]and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” 2 Peter 3:9-14 (underlining added)
Churches seem to be sprouting up everywhere, and so are the delicious, delightful, yummy, tantalizing indulgences offered to get people to come through the front door – and stay. One new church I learned was offering three awesome flavors of coffee with the promise the best was yet to come. Maybe the leadership didn’t realize how many churches have cafes, movie nights, gyms, ATM machines, beautiful buffets, comedy in the middle of sermons, catered events, shops, exercise classes based on false religion, contests with prizes like a GPS system to get the most new people to come to church, and I LOVE MY CHURCH t-shirts for sale to tell the world about their favorite churches. Someone from one church told me they leave Jesus off their website. It’s all the same reason, isn’t it? To make people feel loved and comfortable so they can tell people Jesus loves them and boost their membership numbers and convince people to ask Jesus into their hearts so they can falsely believe they will one day go to heaven while continuing on in their sin-ridden lives following the world’s wicked ways as they head straight for hell and the lake of fire.
Coffee anyone? We don’t know what day we will die nor when Jesus is coming back. But one thing’s for sure. The ONLY way to spend forever in heaven with God instead of hell is to repent of our sins, believe in Christ as Lord, and genuinely devote the rest of our lives to God and His ways. How can a cup of coffee and a comfy church that doesn’t teach the true Word of God compare to the breathtakingly beautiful promise of having an amazing relationship with God now and forever by devoting our lives to Him? Coffee anyone? Before you grab the next cup of comfort, ask yourself this.
Are you living for God? Following Christ isn’t about coffee and comfort. It’s about Truth and following God and His ways forever!
