Today I had the opportunity to help someone in a really big way. It seemed pretty obvious in my human flesh what I should do, so I opened my mouth and began to tell the person exactly what I believed I should say to help. But the Holy Spirit stopped me in my tracks, not once. But twice. Two times, the Holy Spirit convicted me that what seemed obvious to me as a human was not right in the eyes of the Lord. See, God’s ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts, and what seems obvious to us as humans may in fact be the exact opposite of what God wants us to do.
God doesn’t want us to make our decisions based on what is obvious to our human flesh. He wants us to make our decisions based on Him. He wants us to seek His face, His Word, and His ways. When I obeyed the Lord and refused to do what my flesh felt was obvious, I heard Him tell me exactly what He wanted me to do. His will was not the obvious way to my human flesh. His will was the right way because it was His.
6Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Call upon Him while He is near.
7Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
8“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
9“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
