I keep running into people in hiding. All the time. Are you in hiding? Are you hanging onto a secret you’re absolutely convinced you can’t handle talking about? Let me ask you a question. What price are you paying to hold on for dear life to the one thing that might be standing between you and an amazing relationship with the Lord, not to mention life beyond your wildest dreams?
When Jesus Christ came to earth in the flesh as the Son of God, climbed up on that old rugged cross to take every ounce of God’s wrath to pay the penalty for every single human being’s sins so those who repent and believe in Him could have eternal life and an amazingly abundant life here on earth, He did not give up his life in a manner beyond our comprehension so that you and I could spend the rest of our lives living in darkness. He did it to transfer us out of a lifestyle of sin and darkness into a life of Truth, love, and light.
“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14 NASB)
Yet even those of us who call ourselves believers in Jesus, and followers of Him, have a tendency to try to convince ourselves, and others, that we’re living in the light when we’re still desperately trying to hold parts of our lives in the dark so nobody can see. Who are you and I fooling? God can see EVERYTHING, right down to our every thought, desire, and emotion.
Let me tell you something about my own life. No matter how much I struggle, which I still do, I make absolutely certain that I do not keep anything in the dark. Even if I am having trouble letting it go, I confess it to God and ask for help with it. And I make certain that someone, if not a few people in my life, who are strong followers of Jesus Christ, know of my struggle. I do my very best to live a secret-free life. I did not say I live a perfect life. My life is very far from it. I struggle daily, with one thing or another. But I make sure I am not in hiding in any way. For a life of darkness and secrecy is a wide open target for Satan.
If you are in hiding, please come out. God sent Jesus to this earth, and to the cross, and raised Him from the dead, so you and I could be forgiven and learn how to live righteous lives of Truth and freedom. Please go before the Lord with your secrets, and please reach out to strong followers of Jesus, and speak aloud your secrets for the purpose of repentance, confession, prayer, encouragement, forgiveness, and freedom. Even if you’re not ready to be free, even if you’re in the thick of the battle, please don’t go it alone. Bring all of yourself into the light, without exception, where the Lord is – and where your brothers and sisters in the Lord are waiting to help you walk forward with the Lord.
Father, I know people are hurting. Daily, it seems, I see more and more hurt. I see broken people, but so often they don’t look broken. They look whole, and even happy, sometimes. But I know in my heart they are broken. And I know they have secrets. Some do not know you. Others do, but continue to try to hide from you.
We are never hidden from you, Father. And my heart cries out to you now that you would use this little piece of writing to convict hearts, to bring people home to you, to return them to your fold, to bring them to their hands, knees, and faces, in repentance. Please Father, forgive them and set them free.
Catapult them into your light, oh Lord, and teach them to walk in your ways. Comfort their hearts, for so many are hurting, and pour out your love upon them, in them, and through them. Bring lost sheep home, Father. In Jesus’ mighty name. AMEN!
