Don’t Let Pride Steal Your Help

One thing I find relatively common among those who need help, and we all need help at one time or another, is that pride can hold us back from reaching out for help. When we come to see Jesus Christ is Lord and that we need to turn from our sins and commit our lives to Him and we do just that, we may be too prideful to ask the Lord for help when we need it. But this is not all. We may also be too prideful to ask people for help. Pride is an abomination to the Lord, and He calls us over and again in the Bible to humble ourselves. So let’s be humble, friend, and cry out to the Lord when we need help and tell others as well. And then let’s receive with thankful hearts the help He and others so blessedly give us!

Father, you who created the heavens and the earth, all powerful, almighty, all knowing, you know when we need help. And yet you desire that we cry out to you for it. You have blessed us with your best help in the universe and the help of our fellow humans. Please dear Lord help us – yes, help us – to cry out for help when we need it. And thank you in advance for helping us directly yourself and for sending others to do so as well. And please, dear Lord, help us to love and help others also! Amen!

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

“Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;
Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.” Proverbs 16:1
