Wouldn’t it be something if we could just tell the world, “Don’t provoke me!” The world would listen, of course. The world wouldn’t provoke us to be irritable, angry, hurt, offended, bitter, envious, vengeful, prideful, scared, etc. The world wouldn’t do anything whatsoever to cause us to be upset, to want to react, to retaliate, to lash out, to withdraw, well, anything at all for that matter. We would never be provoked to fall into any kind of sin in our hearts, out of our mouths, or in our actions. We would always feel good and be comfortable and secure, of course, because the world would never provoke us. Not ever.
Please take a look at the scripture below. It does NOT say love is not easily provoked because the world around us does everything we want it to do! It simply says love is not easily provoked. And we who follow Jesus are to walk in His love – and to not be easily provoked! Is this possible? Seems impossible, doesn’t it? But it’s not! Because Jesus will help and enable us to do what He calls us to do. What do we need to not be easily provoked besides lots of practice along the way? We need JESUS! We need HIS LOVE! And we need to be committed to learn how to not be easily provoked.
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not [easily per the KJV version]provoked, thinks no evil;” 1 Cor. 13:4-5
