I didn’t want to push her, so I didn’t. I just kept talking to her, prompting her, encouraging her. Okay, maybe pushing her a little. I’m a pusher by nature, admittedly. I’ve done lots of the wrong kind of pushing. Now I like to help push people forward. It’s too easy to get stuck in places we’re not supposed to be when God has something so much better, brighter, beautiful.
Not too much longer into our conversation, something somewhat surprising happened. Well, it must have been surprising to the homeless woman, but it wasn’t surprising to me.
“Do you realize what you just told me sounds like a dream you once had?” I said to the woman.
She had just shared with me a forgotten dream. Only she had left the dream behind, perhaps so long ago, or perhaps simply buried it so deep within her under discouragement, disappointment, and who knows what else, that the dream no longer seemed like a dream to her. It was merely something forgotten.
I cannot say whether this dream is God’s dream for the woman’s life. Nor do I imagine just now she knows either. I don’t know whether she will take it before the Lord to see, or whether she would even considering pursuing it.
I only know this. Just as dreams can be forgotten, dreams can be remembered. I’ve had to let go of countless dreams because they were not God’s dreams for my life, and they did not work out.
But I have also found that God’s dreams are so phenomenally better than my own that I now strive to live them instead of my own.
His dreams for our lives are not meant to be forgotten. Nor are they meant merely to be remembered.
God’s dreams for our lives are meant to be lived!
