Future Focused?

For those of us prone to worry and/or prone to getting really excited about where we are going in life, we may find ourselves hyper focused on the future. In other words, too focused on the future. The Holy Spirit said to me one day:

“But you are here now and you will miss what I have for you here if you focus on where you are going,” He spoke to my heart.

Confession. I am prone to worry which is sin and needs to be purged from our hearts and lives, I am prone to getting enormously excited about where the Lord is leading me in ministry and in future locations since I’m on the road for Him full-time, and I have a history of looking back and getting stuck in the past. Losing track of the present and missing what the Lord desires I do in loving, worshiping, and serving Him in the present is way too easy for someone like me, and I need to be ever careful not to miss the present and the Lord’s will for me day by day most importantly to love and serve Him with all my heart.

I needed and continue to need the reminder the Lord gave me that day. Do you?

“Take therefore no thought [also be anxious per Strong’s concordance]for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew 6:34

I am encouraged also in considering that when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He told them to pray for manna for the rest of their lives, right? Wrong! He told them to pray for manna FOR TODAY. Now you might consider manna as simply food for eating. Please remember Jesus calls Himself the “bread of life” (John 6:48). We need Jesus each and every day. Starting with TODAY. A good reminder to not lose today and the opportunities the Lord gives us in this day because we get swept away in the future!

“Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11

The Lord also emphasizes the importance of TODAY when He tells us we need to deny ourselves and take up our crosses DAILY as we follow Him forth!

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23
