“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:
“Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
“Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
“Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
“The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
“The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. And the Lord will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.” Deuteronomy 28:1-14
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” Ephesians 1:3
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:7
Americans sing God bless America. Americans wear t-shirts saying God bless America. Americans say God bless America. Some Americans even pray God bless America. And surely America is not alone. Surely people around the world sing, and ask, and pray for God to bless their nations. And their families. And themselves individually.
The Lord makes it plain and clear in His Word He WANTS to bless His Creation! He wants to bless us! He wants to bless individuals, and families, even whole nations, and all of His Creation! He created humanity in the perfect Garden of Eden full of perfect blessings most importantly in perfect forever fellowship with Him! But Adam and Eve, first man and woman, in their rebellion against God, in their sin, and every human being ever since, in our sin and rebellion, place us on the pathway of separation from God with the ultimate destination of hell and the lake of fire forever with lives on earth of so very many missed blessings most especially being in perfect fellowship with God!
The Lord WANTS to bless us, but WE hold back His blessings from ourselves as individuals, as families, as whole nations, and as all of humanity when we live with our faces turned to our sins to satisfy the lusts of our flesh and our backs turned in pride and rebellion against God.
God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to the cross to die an immeasurably heinous death and to be raised by God from the dead to pay our sin penalty so if we turn from our sins in repentance and give our lives in faith to Christ as Lord, genuinely believing in Him and following Him forever with the fruits to show forth our faith, we will be forgiven and come into fellowship with the Lord and into His spiritual blessings and whatever other blessings He chooses to bestow upon us with the very most important one being to be in His company forever and ultimately to live in the perfect blessed place called heaven.
When America, or whatever nation we live in, has its back turned to God, when we refuse to repent and receive Christ as Lord, when we walk in our worldly wicked ways and refuse the ways of God, when we trample over the Lord, what He did on the cross, and we don’t take the love, time, care, and diligence to study God’s Word and to live by it, who are we to dare in our pride and arrogance and self-centeredness to ask the Lord to bless us? How tragic.
Is not the greatest tragedy in asking God to bless our nations and our selves when we reject Christ as Lord and refuse to submit our lives to Him that we are in our blindness and pride denying ourselves the very greatest blessing in the universe? Oh, the eternal blessedness of having and experiencing and enjoying a close, intimate, beautiful, magnificent, glorious personal relationship with Jesus Christ who is Lord forevermore!
