God, You’ve Given Me More than I Can Handle!

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” Psalm 18:2

God, you’ve given me more than I can handle! I’m so overwhelmed! This is too much for me! I can’t deal with this! I’m way overloaded! What are you thinking, God! I’m so overwhelmed! I can’t take this anymore! I thought you promised not to give people more than they can handle, God! Oh, help me Lord!

Can you relate? Ever felt totally overwhelmed with your circumstances? Your challenges? Your trials? And tribulations? With how busy you are? With your issues? With your responsibilities? Like each time you come up for air, there’s more to deal with? Like there’s no way God could possibly promise you not to give you more than you can handle when your life looks like it does? After all, isn’t that one of God’s promises? That He’ll never give you more than you can handle? God doesn’t break His promises, does He?

God NEVER breaks His promises. But God doesn’t promise He won’t give us more than we can handle. He promises us He won’t give us more than we can handle without a way of escape! I believe that escape is the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love, hope, faith, mercy, grace, joy, peace, comfort, strength, wisdom, directions, discernment, refuge, fellowship, and promise of eternal life those who repent and give their lives to Him find in Him.

Countless times God HAS given me more than I can handle. More than I can handle without Christ. He has used those times to refine me, to conform me to Himself, to deepen my trust and faith in Him, to perfect His love in me, to teach me to love under pressure, to test my faith and love for Him, to further my testimony so I can better love and serve Him and others, and on and on.

Sometimes we face more than we can handle because of the consequences of our sins, and we need to repent and turn to Christ. But when He gives, and allows, more than we can handle in our lives that is not the result of our wrongdoing, He provides for us the way to escape. The way of the Lord Jesus Christ and intimate forever fellowship with Him for those who turn away from this world and turn to Him in faith, with love and devotion, with commitment and praise.
