Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thess. 5:16-18
How many of us cry out seemingly incessantly to God to tell us His will for our lives only to despairingly frustratingly feel we simply can’t get an answer from Him? Oh, if we would only open our eyes and our hearts to the truth! His Truth!
God’s Word, the Bible, is His will for our lives! And not only does His will for us begin with loving Him with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves, and not only does He make it abundantly clear the only way to have a forever relationship with Him instead of to spend eternity apart from Him in hell and the lake of fire is to repent of our sins and place our trust in and commit our lives to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, but His Word is filled literally from beginning to end with His plan for each and every single one of our lives. His Word is His will!
Does God have an individual plan for each and every one of us? Absolutely! Does He by His Spirit lead one of us to marry and have children, another to remain single and be a missionary in Africa, one person to become a doctor, another to work with special needs kids, this one to open a homeless shelter and the next one to write worship music, and on and on and on, every calling for each of us to be used to bring Him glory and to help build His Kingdom of Christ followers? Absolutely!
But some of us are so wrapped up in seeking His will for the details of our lives, for the things He calls us to do individually, that we are missing the big picture. The how to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. The how to live moment by moment. The how to bring glory to His name. The how to turn away from sin and turn to Christ. The how to die to self and live for the Lord. The how to handle anger, hurt, trials, prayer, hearing Him, worshiping Him, praising Him, raise kids, to deal with life on a day to day basis as a follower of God.
For years I was so caught up in wanting to know God’s will for me individually, to find His purpose for my individual life, that I missed His will for me as a human, the same will He has for us all. The loving and worshiping Him forever through a life committed to Christ, the helping to build His Kingdom, the living in a way that is pure and pleases Him, the how to become holy as He is holy, the learning to sit at the feet of Christ and learn of Him and become more like Him. The verses above are just one of countless instructions for us all on the will of God for our lives.
If you are seeking God’s will, to know and to live it, which we all must do, the place to begin is with God through Christ in His Word.
