Below please find in today’s edition of my Good News Daily three little devotionals.
love & blessings,
New York City is filled with endless surprises and off-the-beaten-track kind of anything and everything. Like the huge truck I saw early one morning pulled up in front of a building for a delivery. My eyes were drawn to the massive words on the side of the truck. DESTRUCTION YOU CAN TRUST. No clue what the ad represented. But I can tell you this. I was quickly reminded of a TOTAL DESTRUCTION we truly can trust. In other words, a TOTAL DESTRUCTION we can absolutely count on. Know what I’m referring to?
The Lord Jesus Christ makes emphatically clear that those who do not turn from a lifestyle of sin and put their trust in Him as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, genuinely turning our hearts and lives over to Him and His ways, choosing a lifestyle of godliness instead of godlessness, will face TOTAL DESTRUCTION – FOREVER APART FROM HIM. Where? In hell and the lake of fire in ETERNAL TORMENT that we can’t even fathom!
But just as much as we can trust fully in total destruction for eternity if we turn our backs to Jesus and reject Him as Lord and Savior, we can fully trust when we give Him our lives and choose His ways and not the world’s ways that we will be PROMISED A FOREVER RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD THAT WE COULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE. Forever with Jesus! Now on this earth, yes! And forever in heaven, yes!
Which will it be, friend? Total destruction forevermore – or being in the Lord’s fellowship forever and ever? Choose Jesus! Choose life! Forevermore, yes!
Lord, for those reading this who haven’t committed their lives utterly to you as Lord and Savior, may this be the very hour they do! For those who have already entrusted their lives to you, may they experience a drawing to yourself like never before and make a deeper commitment than they ever have. May they henceforth be TOTALLY DEVOTED to you dear Lord. Help us all, Lord, to be sold out to you this day and forever and ever, AMEN!
“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.” 2 Thessalonians 1:3-10
When God Isn’t Calling
I was getting ready to do a Video Devotional when it became totally clear to me the Lord wasn’t calling me to do so. Did I hear an audible voice? No. Did I hear a whisper? No. Did I hear the still small voice of God? No. Not that any of this is impossible. It just wasn’t the case. I just knew in my heart I was about to do something to which the Lord wasn’t calling me. And I can promise you I know full well what I would have done in the past. I would have gone ahead and done the Video Devotional. Just like I have gone ahead and done many things over the years led by my flesh instead of by God. For in truth I wasn’t living for Jesus. I was living for myself. Now I am living for Jesus, and I am learning how to deny myself day by day. How to die to myself daily. How to say no to me and yes to my Jesus.
When God isn’t calling, and we’re sure it’s not the Lord calling us to do something but our flesh instead, we have a responsibility. To follow Jesus not our flesh.
I had picked up my camera to start my Video Devotional. I ended up setting it down and going to my computer to write this. For this is what I sensed the Lord wanted me to do instead. To share with you this message. That we were not created for us to rule and reign on the thrones of our lives. That we were created to humbly, lovingly, patiently, faithfully, devotedly live not for ourselves according to the world’s ways but for the Lord Jesus Christ according to His ways.
Sometimes we find ourselves at a crossroads like I did that day. Which way to go? The way of the flesh? Or the way of the Lord? There is one right way to go. The way of Jesus. Let us go, friend, let us go the way of the Lord!
Dear Father, it is excruciatingly hard sometimes to deny the flesh, to die to self, to go your way instead of our way. So I ask that you give us all the desire, the strength, the commitment, all that we need, dear Father, to set down the cameras of our lives, so to speak, to set down our will and timing, and to pick up our crosses and follow you instead. Help us to do YOUR WILL, dear Jesus, not our own. Help us to be faithful followers of you, oh Lord, AMEN!
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Mt. 16:24
The Pathway of God
One day the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart a powerful message about God’s pathway. About His followers walking with Him. An encouraging – and challenging – message.
“Today I want you to walk with me in my presence.
Together we will walk.
And I will guide you along the way.
You don’t need to know the pathway ahead of you.
For I am with you guiding you as you go.”
It can be pretty scary and intimidating to not see what is down the pathway ahead of us. To “walk by faith” as the Bible says rather than “by sight”. To so trust the Lord that we don’t need to know where we are headed but to believe He will take care of us all along the way. As we walk together. As we learn day by day to walk with the Lord.
The Lord’s words to me that day reminded me that as challenging as it is to walk down a pathway without being able to see and know everything that lies ahead and sometimes not even anything at all, we can rest assured when our lives are surrendered to Jesus, He leads the way. He guides us. He provides for us. He loves us.
A beloved friend I lost tragically some years ago used to tell me to take the hand of Jesus. Let’s do that, friend. Let’s take His hand and let us walk with Him. Down the pathway He has chosen for us. As He leads and guides us forth!
Teach us to walk with you, sweet Lord. Guide us. In your love for us. Teach us to trust in you beyond what we can fathom. As much as I love you beyond description, Father, I still fall terribly far short when it comes to trust. Maybe I am not the only one who needs to grow in trust. Help us to grow in trust, dear Father. Help us to take your hand, and lead us down the pathway you have set before us. AMEN!
