Dear friend,

I can’t remember the last time I made New Year’s resolutions. I haven’t done this in years! I truly live by one primary resolution day in and day out.

That I would live to love and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and tell the world about Him!

All the annual New Year’s resolutions I ever made in the past were about self. Now I live day in and day out for the Lord Jesus Christ.

I don’t need to make new resolutions every year. I simply press on believing in Jesus Christ as Lord, following Jesus Christ as Lord, being filled with the Spirit of God, being led by the Spirit of God, and seeking and following His will day after day and forevermore!

Jesus is my first and forever love!

How about you?

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,  I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:12-14

love & blessings,

Call it shock. Call it what you will. I did consider I might have lost my mind. Quite assuredly, I have not! Just a little while ago, the Lord let me know I am to begin writing my next book. Not just a book, but the first book in a series of books.
Seriously? Didn’t I just ask for prayer because I’m exhausted? I don’t exactly have a leisurely low-stress easy and comfortable life. Being on the road for Jesus, doing streets ministry, writing and publishing Good News Daily, tracts, devotionals, and books, and doing video devotionals, not to mention caring for 4 handicapped ministry doggies, all with no salary and exceedingly little physical and financial help, did the Lord just tell me to do MORE for Him not LESS? YES!

Honestly, I couldn’t be more thrilled and humbled! I trust the Lord He will give me all I need strength and energy included to press on.

Prayers appreciated!

Praise the Lord!

“A friend loves at all times,…” Proverbs 17:17

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13

When I called a precious friend and sister in the Lord to share with her something with which I struggled, unlike so much of this world that so often rushes by and doesn’t notice the needs of others or notices but doesn’t take the love, time, care, and compassion to stop and lovingly and humbly help, my friend loved me, encouraged me, counseled me, sacrificed her time for me, prayed for me – and cried for me. She cried in her love for Jesus and her mercy for me.

Only a few times in my life have I ever experienced that depth of love. The tears told it all. Her compassion for me was the compassion of Christ pouring through her as she yielded herself to the Lord and His love and will.

Oh, if only we would all love like this. But how short we fall, don’t we? Myself included. Let us strive, friend, to love the Lord with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves. Love, mercy, grace, tears and all!

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Phil. 4:8

This world is filled with bad news, isn’t it? But then there’s the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ and spending forever with Him ultimately in a perfect place called heaven through faith in Him and His death on the cross and resurrection and our lives being devoted to Him and His ways.

A precious friend sent me a card with the scripture above. It’s a wonderful reminder that we can CHOOSE what we think about. We can focus on all the bad news in this world, or we can learn to focus on the Lord and His Word and the endless blessings He bestows upon us.

What will it be? I’ve had a horrible habit of focusing on the negative. I’m learning day by day to turn my focus to Jesus and the Bible and His blessings. Rest assured I still fall way too much into thinking about the bad news. The negative. The ick and yuck and ugh in this world. But I know I have a choice, and I choose to keep turning my focus to Jesus.

Choose good news, friend! Choose the Lord! Choose His Word! Choose His ways. Believe in Him and follow Him – forever!

“For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;” Proverbs 2:6

Where is the number one place to find wisdom from above? THE BIBLE! Have you made a commitment to read the Bible each and every day no matter what? This was the second most important decision I’ve ever made in my life. The first was to turn my life over to the Lord Jesus Christ!

The two go hand in hand. A true believer in Christ as Lord should hunger and thirst to read and live by the Bible because the Bible is God’s Word! It is His wisdom! It is His instructions for living now and forevermore with Him!

If you haven’t already made this commitment, please do. This very day! Turn your life over to the Lord Jesus Christ – and devote yourself daily to the Lord and His Word. Wisdom from above? Open the pages of the Bible, open your heart, and dig in!

p.s. Reading devotionals and Bible study books and Christian books is all well and good when it is the Lord’s will and biblically sound teaching and encouragement, but this should always come second. Number one? The Lord & the Bible, yes!

Blessing 245

“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18

How should we grow? We should grow, shouldn’t we? Of course, yes! But just as we once grew in the image of this world and humankind, we who have committed our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ are now to grow in the image of God! And, specifically according to this blessed verse, we are to grow IN GRACE and IN KNOWLEDGE of Jesus.

So not only do we grow in His image by the leading and power of the Spirit of Christ, but we are to grow in THE GRACE OF JESUS. And in the KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS. One could say we are to have more and more grace ourselves for others. And that we are to continually draw on the well of grace offered to us by the Lord. As for knowledge, we can grow in that we learn more and more about the Lord by reading the Word and learning to live by it. But we can also come to know Jesus Himself more intimately by spending time alone with Him. By praying and listening to the voice of the Lord as He speaks to our hearts. By living our lives in love for and obedience to Him. By receiving more and more of His love, drawing every closer to Him, and Him to us. By growing in personal relationship with Christ.

The life of following the Lord is not a stuck-in-place life. It’s not a stagnant life. It’s not a boring life. It’s not a going backwards life. It is filled with passion, filled with unfathomable love, the love of God, and with spiritual blessing after spiritual blessing. Like when it comes to grace and knowledge. Oh, how glorious is Jesus’ grace! Oh, how wonderful is coming to know the Lord more and more! The blessedness of it all, yes! AMEN!

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:7-8

My paralyzed doggy Mr. Simeon spends lots of time atop Mommy’s bed, and this morning he became exceedingly disturbed and restless and started flailing around when he realized Mommy’s new writing table which is beside the bed and not on top of it was too far away from him to reach her. So Mommy (me) had to move him nearer to me, and me nearer to Mr. Simeon. Because Mr. Simeon seems to never be near enough to me.

How do you suppose the Lord feels considering all He has done for us, is doing for us, and will do for us, and that He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings and Savior of the world, when so many of us who profess to believe in Him spend so much of our time moving away from Him further and further into the busyness of our lives instead of nearer and nearer to Him in our hearts, in our words, in our actions, and in our time?

Is there anyone you would rather spend time with more than Jesus? Do you draw ever nearer to Him? Do you love your daily alone time with Him? Do you hunger and thirst for more of Jesus and more of the Bible and more living to love, please, honor, worship, and glorify the Lord? Is He your first love?

Draw near, and nearer, to the Lord, my friend! Oh, draw nearer to dear Jesus!

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Cor. 15:58

A smorgasboard is a buffet, friend, and serving Jesus in our everyday lives is not designed to be buffet style. We were not created to pick and choose when to obey the Lord, and we were not created to pick and choose when, where, how, what, and with whom to serve the Lord based on our fleshly ways, wishes, and wants.

The right way to serve the Lord is to humble ourselves before Him and to surrender ourselves to His will in service and in all things. For the glory of Christ, yes!
