Please find below FIVE MESSAGES. Lots of messages, I know! I trust the Lord to use them in your heart and life as He sees fit with the hope He will through them show you His love, bring to you His truth, draw you to Himself, change you as He desires, and grow you in His image. All for His glory, oh yes!

* Don’t Assume the Obvious
* The Battery Drain Story
* Purify Everything
* What I Want!
love & blessings,
Someone from a business on the phone with me one day speedily answered my question about the weather down very far south in the United States where she was with this: “Blazing hot!” she exclaimed.
I could only imagine. Where I was, not as far south as she was, the heat index was 108 degrees! Talk about hot! Blazing hot! Though far apart, we were both in “blazing hot” places on that particular day as far as we were concerned.
But “blazing hot” can’t even come close to describing the everlasting brutal and torturous heinous heat of the endless fires of hell and the lake of fire. This is where people will be forever in torment away from God who do not repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection whereby they devote their lives to the Lord and His ways!
Even as I wrote the start of this message, I went inside to my little hotel room with air conditioning because I was so unbelievably hot sitting outside writing in the sunshine. Thank the Lord for air conditioning and drinking water. Rest assured there will not be either in hell and the lake of fire, friend.
Nothing but unending torment and the reality there is no going back for people who end up there. No second chances. No changing of the mind. No more room for repentance and turning to Christ. It will be a point of no return.
I have heard over the years people harshly judge and condemn so-called hellfire and brimstone preachers. Would it be not wise to be thankful for those who have the courage and boldness by the leading and power of the Holy Spirit of God to preach the truth we all need to know? Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ Himself preached about hell? Do you know the Bible makes mention of hell over and again?
But let us not dwell further on indescribably brutally hot hell and the lake of fire, friend. Let us reflect on this. God almighty loved the world He created so much He sent His only Son Jesus to the earth to live a perfect life and to the cross to die an unfathomable death and raised Him from the dead so all who turn from their sins and believe in Him as Lord and in His death and resurrection genuinely turning their hearts and lives over to God and His ways are forgiven our sins and promised everlasting life with the Lord.
Please, friend, if you haven’t already, surrender your life utterly now and forevermore to the Lord Jesus Christ, ask for and receive the gift of His Holy Spirit, read the Bible and live by it, and live henceforth for God almighty according to His ways for His glory, hallelujah, AMEN!
If you have already committed your life to Christ, please take every opportunity the Lord gives you as the Holy Spirit leads, emboldens, and empowers you to share the Good News (Gospel) message about Christ and eternal life. And in so doing, please don’t neglect to tell people that heaven and eternal bliss and blessedness with God and blazing hot hell and the lake of fire forever apart from Him are real. Let us not hold back the truth! AMEN!
Oh, Father, what a powerful, powerful message! Thank you for placing it on my heart to deliver. Thank you for giving me the courage and boldness to share it! Though I remember so very little in my first few decades of life in the way of hearing about you, oh Lord, I do know a few teachers in my elementary school and perhaps one family had the courage to tell me a little about you. Though I remember little of what they said, and though I don’t know if the Good News message was ever clearly explained at least in a way I understood, I know vital seeds were planted. You sent a few others through the years, Lord, but overall I believe there was a great lack in the way of being told and taught about you for a very long time.
Lord, please send laborers out and about all over the world to preach and teach the truth about you, dear God, about heaven and hell, about sin and repentance, about your grace and salvation, about the Bible, about the Holy Spirit, and on and on. Lord, I pray you would take this very message and use it to save people near and far, to strengthen the faith of those who already believe in you and to cause them to deepen their commitment to you, and to encourage them to go out and tell others about you! In advance, Lord, whether I know what you do or don’t do with this message, I thank you for answering my prayer! AMEN!
“in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,” 2 Thess. 1:8-9
“But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!” Luke 12:5
“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— where ‘THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.’ And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— where ‘THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.’ And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— where ‘THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.’” Mark 9:43-48
“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS: ‘PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD; MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.’ ” But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,…And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:1-12
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Don’t Assume the Obvious
I have a huge heart for the homeless and hurting, so imagine how excited I was when the Lord put on my heart He wanted to increase the number of homeless shelters and rescue missions on my distribution list for the Gospel tracts and lara love’s Good News Magazine pocket-sized booklets sent out around the United States. There are numerous prisons and jails on the list, for which I am so thankful, but the very few facilities for people who are homeless have lessened over time rather than increased as I so would love.
I quickly assumed the obvious. The homeless shelters and rescue missions to be added to the list should be Christian facilities so they would be okay with receiving and distributing my tracts and devotional magazines. And I should use a list I found on the Internet of such facilities rather than do any research outside that list. The list had already been compiled. I assumed the obvious. Christian list already compiled. I would reach out and offer to add them to my list. But the Lord stopped me! And He reminded me of this. This message I share with you now.
Don’t assume the obvious! For me, turns out the Lord didn’t lead me to exclusively use that list. Nor did He want me to reach out only to Christian facilities. He had a plan and purpose, and I needed to seek Him and His will and timing and trust Him to lead me where and to whom He wanted me to reach out and to open any doors to opportunities He desired.
Therein lies the answer, friend. The Lord and His will and putting our trust in Him and not ourselves. Having faith in Him and not assuming the obvious.
Rather than assume the obvious and live our lives based on it, we need to continually put our trust in the Lord, seek the Lord, hear the Lord, and obey the Lord. Much of the time, I have found the Lord’s leading to be in stark contrast to what was obvious. It’s made my life following Jesus quite an adventure. Challenging, yes, but beautiful because it’s about Him, through Him, and for Him!
Please don’t assume the obvious. Entrust yourself to Jesus and let His Spirit lead the way!
Lord, thank you for teaching me this powerful lesson and for using me to share it with others! You taught me this long ago, Father, but still I fall prey to listening to and following the flesh when I’m not careful. To thinking the obvious and sometimes even to doing the obvious. Surely I am not alone in this. Catch us, Lord, before we go running off in one direction or another to do the obvious. Remind us before we start doing the obvious to seek you, Lord. And when we get caught up in the thoughts before we even take the actions, please help us redirect our thoughts to you and to prayer. Lord, oh we need you more than I believe we could possibly realize.
Thank you for giving us 24-7 access to you through faith in you and for hearing and answering our prayers. I pray this for all who read this message and most assuredly for myself, God. Sometimes you do want us to do what is so obvious. But sometimes, even often, it seems, at least in my life, and perhaps in the lives of many others, you want us to “walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7)” as you say in your Bible, to put our trust in you, to wait for your Spirit to lead us, and to follow you forth! Oh, help us God, AMEN!
p.s. Lord. I thought I was done praying on this. But now I am reminded of the apostles. How often, and, oh, yes, the prophets in the Old Testament, how often you called them to do the seemingly impossible and the totally not obvious. And even in the battles in the Old Testament, those who won didn’t do what was obvious and apparent. They sought you and followed you, and sometimes your directions were way off the beaten track. Like marching around a city. Like setting an ambush. Then at one point Father you called Abraham to leave behind almost everything and go.
Oh, now that I think about it, Lord, throughout the Bible you call your children to do what is not obvious. And all those who had victory in one fashion or another – they followed you!
Help us, help us, help us to lay down our lives, to humble ourselves in your sight, and to do whatever you desire – obvious or not. Thank you for your wisdom, direction, and strength and power as you call us and enable us to follow you, dear Lord. AMEN! Oh, and Lord, all the people in the well known chapter 11 in the book of Hebrews. All those people of faith some refer to as the “heroes of faith.” They didn’t do the obvious, did they? They did as you desired! Help us to do as you desire!
Friend, please keep your heart and eyes open as you read the Bible for how many people who loved and feared and honored and followed the Lord didn’t do the obvious but put their trust in the Lord and lived in obedience to Him!
I hope with all my heart you make the commitment I did long ago to study the Bible daily and to live by it. And watch what the Lord will do in and through your heart and life! AMEN!
Thank you Lord for bringing this message to my attention over and again through the years. Thank you for using me now once again to share it with others. May we all live filled with and led by your Holy Spirit regardless of whether what you lead us to do is obvious or not! Amen!
“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.” Psalm 143:8
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
The Battery Drain Story
Some years ago my car battery kept dying but not because I left my lights on when I parked as I have been known to do. I was told something was “draining” my battery. That something needed to be located so the “draining” would cease and the problem would be resolved. It took quite some time and several mechanics, but the source of the “draining” was located and that particular problem with the battery was fixed. Wonder how this relates to you and me?
Sometimes I have found myself unable to do God’s will in my ministry work or at least unable to do it with full enthusiasm, love, joy, excitement, focus, and devotion because of a “battery drain.” Turns out I was distracted by other matters, running around doing other things the Lord didn’t want me doing, thinking about things I shouldn’t have been thinking about, not resting when He wanted me to rest, spending too much time on the phone, spending time on the Internet exhausting myself with all the colors and chaos of it, meddling in stuff that wasn’t my business, etc. In one way or another, I was out of the Lord’s will and my “battery” was being “drained” in the process.
I don’t have the really good attention span I once had and have to be vigilant in watching out for the “draining” of my “battery”. I have a strong tendency to run off in all sorts of directions doing all sorts of things some in the will of the Lord and some not. When my “battery” does start “draining” in a way dishonoring to the Lord, His Holy Spirit brings to my attention the source of the “draining” and leads me to repentance and to renewed focus on Him and His will for me.
Anything in your life “draining” your “battery”? Anything you need to let go? To work on? To seek the Lord’s forgiveness about? Any changes you need to make? Can you see after reading this that there are things in your life that have been “draining” your “battery” whereby you are not giving the Lord and His will for you your all? Please pray. And follow any instructions the Lord places on your heart! All for the glory of Christ, Amen!
Dear Lord, what a vital message for people like me. I hope, Lord, you will bring this message to many. And that you will use it to bring loving correction. Please forgive us for when we fall short in this! Please mercifully help us to be more pleasing to you! Please help all those of us who are easily distracted to learn to focus on you and your Word and your will for our lives.
Please bring to light the underlying cause of any “battery drains” in my readers’ hearts and lives most assuredly as well as my own! This brings to mind, Lord, that WORRY is an enormous “battery drain”. And that our thoughts being in the wrong place can “drain our batteries”. Like complaining, negativity, self-pity, vengeance. Yes, oh Lord, sin can so “drain our batteries”! What a mighty big message, Lord. At least for me. And I am guessing for many others. Help us, oh Lord, with this “battery drain” issue. And I thank you in advance for your loving help and patience and mercy with us, oh God. AMEN!
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3
I had just written a message telling people to purify themselves as the Lord had instructed me to do when He gave me this message to write about purification. Why would He give me another one? This time He apparently wanted me to bring to light that you and I need to purify EVERYTHING! Let me give you some examples:
Our hearts, thoughts, feelings, motives, actions, finances, what we watch, what we read, what we listen to, our entertainment, our hobbies, households, relationships, lifestyle, dreams, attitudes, countenance, words, habits, choices, decisions, responses to others, routines, care of our bodies, eating, what we do with our free time, our relationship with the Lord most importantly, and on and on!
Friend, do your very best each and every day to make sure that what you think, say, and do is PLEASING TO THE LORD. The best way to know if it is pleasing to the Lord is to read the Bible daily; to spend time alone with Him daily praying, seeking Him, listening, learning, growing, hearing Him, and obeying Him; and having people in your life that love and follow the Lord to walk alongside you to love you, encourage you, pray for you, and help and support you in following Jesus.
The Holy Spirit of God who lives inside His followers will bring to our attention anything impure that needs to go. The Lord will also use the Bible and others to bring to our attention impurities that need to be gotten rid of. And He will use any other means He desires!
We can’t purify the world around us, but most assuredly we can purify our own hearts and lives within it.
This is not to be done on a one-time basis or a once-in-a-while basis or even a set-in-stone-certain-time-of-day daily basis. We should be continually purifying ourselves before the Lord and for the Lord when the need arises and as He so leads us.
May these questions help you as you go forth. This list is not in any way exhaustive. It is just to help you in considering your ongoing purification for Christ!
• Do you have any relationships displeasing to God? Are you in a romantic relationship with someone who is not a follower of Jesus?
• Are you living with someone in a romantic relationship and/or engaged in a sexual relationship with that person outside of marriage?
• Are you using your mouth to complain, be negative, gossip, and speak poorly of others?
• Are you mistreating people and/or animals in any way?
• Are you taking poor care of the body God has given you?
• Are you spending money on things displeasing to the Lord?
• Are you spending your free time doing things that are not glorifying to God?
• Are you spending time worrying each and every day?
• Are your friends people who draw you away from the Lord and influence you to live in a manner that is rebellious toward Him?
• Do you have any habits that do not line up with what the Lord makes clear in His Bible is necessary to please and honor Him?
• Are you praying to God but not reading the Bible, not obeying Him, not spending time loving, praising, worshiping, and adoring Him? Is your relationship with Him really all if not mostly about you and not about Him?
• Are you living your life according to your will and the world’s ways instead of living it for Him according to His will and ways?
• Is there anything in your heart and life that does not please the Lord and ultimately bring Him glory?
Please don’t be discouraged! This message is not to bring dismay, shame, and condemnation! It is to bring to light that ALL OF US need to continually purify ourselves for Christ. And that when we find anything in our hearts and lives that is not pleasing, honoring, and glorifying to God, we need to purify ourselves! We need to let it go, make necessary changes, and/or do whatever the Lord shows us in His strength for His glory. And we of course need to seek and receive His forgiveness whenever necessary!
Does this sound intimidating? Overwhelming? Impossible even? I learned to do this some time ago, and it is an absolutely AWESOME and WONDERFUL process. Hard? Sometimes, exceedingly, yes! But BEAUTIFUL. Because in purifying ourselves, and in living to love, serve, please, honor, and glorify God, we draw ever closer to Him, grow in His image, and more and more enjoy the amazingness of as His followers being in His forever fellowship and diving deeper and deeper into loving intimacy with Him as Lord, as Father, as King, as forever God, AMEN!
Purify yourself! Purify yourself! Yes, do! Continually!
Lord, thank you! Never thought I would thank you for something that can be as tough as purifying myself. Nor for giving me a pretty hard message to deliver. But I say, thank you Lord! For this message in my estimate anyway is an opportunity to bring to light the vital importance of not believing in you from a distance, not following you from way far behind you, but of walking right there with you in closer and closer fellowship with you. Help us to purify ourselves, oh Lord, AMEN! In EVERYTHING, oh Lord, as you lead us, oh yes!
“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” 2 Timothy 2:20-21
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” 1 John 3:2-3
What I Want!
“I want to [do such and such with such and such],” I told the Lord concerning a ministry matter. Did I pray it to Him? Or was it just what I was thinking? I don’t recall, but I do know this. What happened next bears a critical message.
“What do I want you to do?” the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart.
“I hadn’t even considered that,” I replied.
Considered what? I hadn’t even considered what the Lord wanted! I had only thought about what I wanted!
Friend, we are not merely to call Jesus Christ Lord! We are not to merely believe in Jesus Christ as Lord! We are to live our lives accordingly! Why? Because HE IS LORD! And we who believe in Him as Lord are His children and servants! And we are to think and behave as such!
I needed that reminder. Do you?
Years ago, a loved one brought to my attention the verse below in which Jesus brings strong conviction to those who call Him Lord but don’t live accordingly. Friend, we must, we must, we must seek, hear, and follow the Lord! We are to live in love for and obedience TO THE LORD! We are to believe in Jesus as Lord, to call Jesus Lord, and to live as though He is Lord. Because HE IS LORD FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN!
Oh, Lord, how wicked we are to call you Lord, to believe in you as Lord, and to try to live our lives apart from you. Teach us to love, honor, seek, hear, obey, serve, follow, and glorify you as Lord. Because you are! Forever and ever, yes, AMEN!
“”But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” Luke 6:46
