TODAY’S THE CROSS DEVOTIONAL WHEN SENIOR DOGGY WANTS SOMETHING!”O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. 2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. 3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. 4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. 6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. 7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. 8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:1-8 “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3 “When you want something, you seem to have no trouble chasing after it!” I exclaimed to 14-year-old streets ministry doggy Abigail as she reminded me once more what happens when she sees a squirrel, bird, or another dog. Once a tomboy kind of dog who LOVED the outdoors and running at top speed to go after whatever she desired to no end more than cuddling and snuggling with Mommy, she walks at a snail’s pace now. But isn’t it something when she really wants something, she musters up all the energy in the world and rushes after it just like in the old days. If she doesn’t want something, she’s perfectly content to take all the time in the world to get to where she’s going. Do you ever do this with the Lord? Do you chase after Him at high speed when you want to pray about something really important to you? When you’re in desperate need of help? When you absolutely want something indescribably much? Do you go high-tailing it to the Lord at those times? But then the rest of the time go about your life as though He’s lost His significance and value in your life greatly – or to some degree anyway? Is the Lord more important to you when you really want something? Then you go back to taking all the time in the world to come back to Him again? Let’s be honest with ourselves. Are we greedy with God? Do we then neglect Him when it’s not all about what we want, what we’re getting, or what we’re not getting? May the Lord be our first love AT ALL TIMES, may we honor Him ALL THE TIME, may we desire to be in His presence regardless of our needs and wants, and may we chase after Him and His will for our lives continually! |
