TODAY’S LITTLE LETTER FROM LARA

Dear friend,

I have a beloved friend who told me she hates to disappoint people. I can certainly relate! I love people, and I hate to upset them! But those of us who hate to disappoint people need to be careful. For our love, loyalty, and allegiance above all else need to be to the Lord. We are most assuredly to love others! But we are to love the Lord FIRST! And sometimes when we choose to obey the Lord, people will not be happy with us because their desires for us may not line up with the Lord’s will for us!

What should we do if what the Lord calls us to do does not make everyone happy? Or even disappoints some people? Maybe even someone we dearly love?

WE MUST OBEY THE LORD – no matter the cost! No matter how people respond to us! No matter what they think of us!

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST NEEDS TO ALWAYS BE NUMBER ONE IN OUR HEARTS AND LIVES!

If the Lord has called you to do something that doesn’t make everyone around you happy, remember who is Lord. Jesus Christ is Lord forever! Obey the Lord!

“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10

TODAY’S DAILY INSPIRATION

THE LITTLE GIRL’S HAND

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10

I was walking down a New York City sidewalk with 14-year-old slow-moving streets ministry doggy Abigail and her 8-year-old hit-by-two-cars-after-being-dumped-at-a-gas-station years ago buddy Gracie when I noticed a precious little girl and her beautiful Mom walking in front of us. All of a sudden the girl reached up her hand to take her Mom’s hand. Immediately her Mom reached down her hand to her daughter, and together they walked on hand in hand.

I thought about the Lord when I saw this. How as soon as we humbly and hungrily turn to Him with our hands reached upward to Him, He takes our hand and walks with us down the sidewalks of our lives. From one sidewalk to another as He leads us down the pathway of life He has set before us. He doesn’t make us take His hand, but oh how quickly He will grab hold of our hands when we who have turned from our sins and placed our belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and become His followers reach upward to Him.

Reach your hand upward to the Lord, friend. Surrender all to Him, take His hand, and follow Him faithfully and forever. Let us as His adoring children lift our hearts and hands upward to the Lord, AMEN!

DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT

DID YOU NOTICE THIS WORD?

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” John 15:14

I LOVE words, words are an enormous part of my calling, I am trained in the use of words, the Lord has gifted me in them in writing and speaking, and I am filled abundantly with the Holy Spirit who teaches me, leads me, changes me, and uses me. So I tend to notice words not everyone may notice. Did you notice this word in the verse above? WHATEVER. I didn’t for years. Then the Lord brought it to life.

WHATEVER. Not WHAT. But WHATEVER. Friends of Jesus are those who do what the Lord commands us, right? Well, sure. But the word WHATEVER is even stronger and more encompassing than WHAT. The word emphasizes that NOTHING is left out of this statement. His friends do not just what, but WHATEVER He commands. So we’re not to pick and choose when to obey the Lord and about what to obey Him. We are to obey Him ALL THE TIME – in WHATEVER HE TELLS US TO DO!

Wow, huh? Let’s get busy, friend. In obeying the Lord with WHATEVER He teaches us in His Word and speaks to us personally in line with His Word. Yes, WHATEVER! AMEN!

TODAY’S 365 BLESSINGS

365 BLESSINGS is a devotional book I wrote that is available in print by contacting me at 843-338-2219 or via lara@GoodNews.love.

Blessing #213

“because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel,”

What if all the hope we would ever know and have is the hope we have here on earth? Earthly hope. Worldly hope. Hope related to our circumstances. To the details of our lives. Related to our personal dreams and desires, to our relationships, to our finances, the weather, vacations we wish to take, to where we desire to travel, to getting out of jail, to finding a home to live in to get off the streets, etc.

Oh, it is wonderful and blessed to hope, isn’t it? But sometimes our hopes come to pass – and sometimes they definitely and so very sadly don’t. We aren’t guaranteed to see happy endings to this hope or that hope. Oh, sure, we can hope. But what about hope that comes with a guarantee? Can you imagine hoping for the most wonderful thing ever in the universe and knowing for surety that hope will one day be realized?

Friend, when we turn from our sins and believe in Christ as Lord, becoming entirely His, dedicating our hearts and lives to His loving caring, learning to live for Him the way He commands and desires, then it is we can HOPE with the guarantee our hope will in fact come to pass.

For when we are utterly Christ’s, then we have the HOPE IN HEAVEN – the total knowing and peace that comes with it – that we will one day see face to face and be in the forever glorious presence of Jesus the Christ, AMEN! Oh, what hope! What blessed, blessed HOPE! The hope of Jesus, hallelujah!

TODAY’S THE CROSS DEVOTIONAL

WHEN SENIOR DOGGY WANTS SOMETHING!”O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.
Because You have been my help,
Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
My soul follows close behind You;
Your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:1-8

“Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3

“When you want something, you seem to have no trouble chasing after it!” I exclaimed to 14-year-old streets ministry doggy Abigail as she reminded me once more what happens when she sees a squirrel, bird, or another dog.

Once a tomboy kind of dog who LOVED the outdoors and running at top speed to go after whatever she desired to no end more than cuddling and snuggling with Mommy, she walks at a snail’s pace now. But isn’t it something when she really wants something, she musters up all the energy in the world and rushes after it just like in the old days. If she doesn’t want something, she’s perfectly content to take all the time in the world to get to where she’s going.

Do you ever do this with the Lord? Do you chase after Him at high speed when you want to pray about something really important to you? When you’re in desperate need of help? When you absolutely want something indescribably much? Do you go high-tailing it to the Lord at those times? But then the rest of the time go about your life as though He’s lost His significance and value in your life greatly – or to some degree anyway? Is the Lord more important to you when you really want something? Then you go back to taking all the time in the world to come back to Him again?

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Are we greedy with God? Do we then neglect Him when it’s not all about what we want, what we’re getting, or what we’re not getting?

May the Lord be our first love AT ALL TIMES, may we honor Him ALL THE TIME, may we desire to be in His presence regardless of our needs and wants, and may we chase after Him and His will for our lives continually!

TODAY’S SERVING JESUS IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE

THE MAN ON THE BENCH

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” 1 Peter 3:15

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;
Indeed, I do not restrain my lips,
O Lord, You Yourself know.” Psalm 40:9

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2

It was a long day. A yucky one honestly. I had been exhausted. Cranky. Irritable. Wiped out. Overwhelmed with caring for 4 handicapped doggies. Needing rest but not taking the time for it. Now I needed to go out and walk 14-year-old Abigail who walks slower than imaginable and has become unkind to other doggies in her very old age aside from her sibling dogs and 8-year-old Gracie who limps along after being hit by 2 cars at a gas station where she was dumped years ago and who is petrified of noises and strangers. Night time. Dark-ish. Park. New York City. I would rather have gone to sleep.

No sooner than I got the dogs to the park than I started talking to a man on a bench. Next thing I knew, he was sharing the false religions he had been influenced by and I was sharing the Gospel message with him, giving him my Finding the Light Gospel tract which includes my personal story, and signing him up for my Good News Daily.

We need to ALWAYS be ready to proclaim Christ to this world, to share the Good News of how to have a forever relationship with Him, and to minister to people as the Lord leads us. No matter what kind of day we are having! No matter our calendars! No matter our schedules! No matter our daily responsibilities like caring for doggies! No matter our struggles! No matter what!

Please don’t ever hold back from telling the world about the Lord Jesus Christ when the Lord so leads you! May the Lord be glorified day in and day out in and through our hearts, our lives – and our mouths!
