Oh, God Is Near!
The Lord graciously and mercifully teaches us in the Bible that He – God almighty! – is near to those who what? CALL UPON HIM!
“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Psalms 145:18
But note in this marvelously comforting verse that it does not merely say He is near to those who call upon Him. It goes on to say that He is near to those who call upon Him in what? IN TRUTH!
More and more in my daily study of the Bible do I notice words like “in truth” and “in sincerity.” These words are significant, friend! We must not gloss over them when we see them!
Why would the Lord compel us to call upon Him IN TRUTH? What is the significance? I believe He is revealing to us that He wants us to CRY OUT TO HIM with real genuineness, with utter sincerity, calling out to Him with humble, desperate, hungry hearts thirsty for Him and His will and ways and provision including more of His love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, hope, peace, promises, fellowship, healing, and joy!
The Pharisees whom the Lord often rebuked were known for putting on appearances and loving the praises of the people. They even prayed to put on a show. The Lord is not looking for a show! He is not interested in appearances! He is seeking a people who will worship Him in what? “in spirit and in truth”. And who will call upon Him how? IN TRUTH!
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24
No shows. No appearances. No man-made traditions. No human-crafted religious practices. No trying to get attention from those watching us. No pretending to praise, worship, and pray to God. No calling on Him with our hearts far from Him. God said this:
“Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:” Isaiah 29:13
The Lord desires love, reverence, honor, holiness, purity, humility, sincerity, genuineness, realness, TRUTH!
Call upon the Lord the way He desires. IN TRUTH! Draw ever nearer to the Lord! And may the Lord God almighty draw ever nearer to you! Amen!
Your Mouth on the Battlefield!
One day as I was in the midst of a particularly grueling spiritual battle, the Lord made clear His battle plan for me to have victory in that particular battle. He showed me long ago in the Old Testament that He had different battle plans for different battles in times of physical war, and I believe the same is true in spiritual warfare. We need to look to the Lord, to the Bible, pray to Him, seek Him, listen, hear, measure what we hear against the Bible to ensure what we are hearing is from Him as He always and only speaks in line with the Bible, and obey Him to secure victory. Then we need to remember to give Him the glory for victory and not take it ourselves.
Please read the battle plan He gave me and see if He might speak to you through it concerning your own life’s battles.
The Lord revealed in His battle plan for me that He wanted me to use my mouth to achieve victory in these five ways:
…PRAISE AND WORSHIP HIM
…SING TO HIM
…PRAY TO HIM
…SPEAK SCRIPURES AS JESUS DID WHEN HE FACED THE DEVIL IN THE WILDERNESS
…TAKE AUTHORITY OVER THE DEVIL WITH MY MOUTH
I encourage you as you read the Bible both Old Testament and New Testament to pay attention to how the Holy Spirit leads God’s people in all things – battles and victories included! I also encourage you as you read the Bible to look out for verses concerning the battle plan He gave me. In other words, praise, worship, singing, prayer, scriptures to speak and most importantly to live by, and taking authority over the devil in the power of Christ.
And please, friend, keep your heart wide open as you read the Bible which I urge you to do daily to see how the Holy Spirit of God leads you in your everyday life – battles included!
Watch in this verse how Jesus when facing the devil in the wilderness took authority over the devil and used a Bible verse in doing so!
“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Luke 4:8
Friend, remember no matter the battle plan the Lord places on your heart as you go through life’s battles, the victory is in and through the Lord! The ultimate glory is to be HIS! Amen!
Choosing to Trust
We can have all the faith in the Lord in the world and get nowhere in our relationship with Him and in life because of what we do when it comes to trust. Just because we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and in the truth of the Bible doesn’t mean we put our trust in Him and obey Him as far as the Bible is concerned. We need to CHOOSE TO TRUST THE LORD and CHOOSE TO HUMBLE OURSELVES AND IN OUR LOVE FOR HIM OBEY HIM.
The psalmist over and again writes of PUTTING HIS TRUST in the Lord. This is a wonderful and strong reminder for us to make the decision day by day, hour by hour, step by step, breath by breath to PUT OUR TRUST IN THE LORD. To CHOOSE TO TRUST HIM. In all things. All the time. And, when we fall short, to repent and turn back to Him!
“Trust in him at all times; ye people,…” Psalms 62:8
I have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord for many years but for much of that time I have fallen greatly short in trusting Him. In PUTTING MY TRUST IN THE LORD. I have proclaimed my faith in Him to many and most especially to the Lord Himself all the while putting my trust in myself, in others, and in this world time and again instead of IN THE LORD. I have fallen miserably far short and missed God’s perfect will for my life and ministry each and every time I failed to CHOOSE TO TRUST THE LORD and TO PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.
Now I am learning day by day to stand on my FAITH IN THE LORD and to PUT MY TRUST IN THE LORD and to think, speak, and act accordingly. I have a long way to go and am so very thankful to the Lord for His amazing and blessed patience and mercy with me and for the encouragement and strength and leading He gives me to go forth learning to PUT MY TRUST IN HIM. To CHOOSE TO TRUST HIM!
Friend, where do you stand with PUTTING YOUR TRUST IN THE LORD? With CHOOSING TO TRUST IN HIM in all things? In every area of your life? Oh, TRUST IN THE LORD, my friend. TRUST, TRUST, TRUST IN HIM!
Please be encouraged and inspired to CHOOSE TO TRUST IN HIM by reading these verses. And please as you read the Bible keep your eyes open for encouragement to PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE LORD!

“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” Psalms 9:10

“Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.” Psalms 16:1
“Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.” Psalms 17:7
“O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.” Psalms 25:20
