Help Me Obey You!

The Lord God almighty makes so unbelievably clear in the Bible that those who repent and place their faith in Christ as Lord, believing He died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, turning to Him and His ways, receiving His forgiveness and the promise of everlasting life with Him ARE TO LIVE IN OBEDIENCE TO HIM.

Friend, one day I came across a little piece of paper on which I had written a tiny little but oh so powerful and shocking prayer. “Help me obey,” I had written to the Lord. Tiny in that it was only three words. Powerful in that we need the Lord’s strength to deny our flesh and live in obedience to the Lord according to His ways not the world’s ways. Shocking because for many years even as a woman who professed to believe in Christ as Lord, my life could hardly be considered one of obedience to the Lord.

But the Lord didn’t leave me where I was. He lovingly, mercifully, strongly, firmly, sternly, and patiently refined me over time until I found myself in a place of desiring more than imagination to love, worship, praise, adore, serve, OBEY, and glorify the Lord! He also helped me see my years of trying to obey Him in my human “strength” when I finally understood I needed to obey Him produced little more than a lot of failure. At long last, I came to see WE ARE TO OBEY THE LORD IN HIS STRENGTH FOR HIS GLORY! And He truly does give us the strength we need TO OBEY HIM!

Help us to obey you, oh Lord. Help us to live for you, oh Lord. Help us to follow you, oh Lord. For those reading this who don’t desire to obey you, give them a desire beyond imagination to live to love, obey, and glorify you now and forevermore, AMEN!
