Homeless Man Searching for God

0
One of my homeless friends is such an inspiration to me. He doesn’t inspire me because He is a follower of Jesus Christ. He inspires me because of what he is doing because he is not one. He is searching and learning. If you have ever heard a preacher make claims on how many people at a given service made “decisions for Christ,” you might want to consider what so inspires me about my homeless friend. Instead of impulsively, emotionally, jumping into something he does not understand or yet believe, he wants to make sure he truly believes.

Saying an emotional prayer surrounded by thousands of people in a stadium at a “tent revival”, or running to the altar in a little church down the street when the pastor does an “altar call,” or repeating the words at the end of a television program produced by a well known televangelist, is NOT a guarantee of salvation. First off, the Bible never mentions a “sinner’s prayer.” Second, the Bible teaches that you need to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord AND believe that God raised Him from the dead. Third, you must REPENT from your sins and believe the Gospel that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins. Repentance means that you understand and acknowledge you have sinned against God AND that you feel truly sorry for your sins against Him. Fourthly, and exceedingly importantly, if you are really saved, you will make a genuine commitment to following Christ by studying the Bible and living your life according to God’s ways. Your life should truly demonstrate to the Lord, and to the world, that you are committed to learn to leave your old lifestyle behind and to live the life God intended for you all along.

Believe it or not, it was my veterinarian recently who shared with me recently how strongly he feels about the need for people to open up the Bible and to read it because therein lies the Truth about Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior.

There will come a day when it will be too late.

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;” John 5:39

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10 NASB
