“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6…………
“I can’t do everything!” I told the Lord in my heart one day.
“I never asked you to do everything,” He immediately replied. “I only asked you to do what I asked you to do.”
Feeling overwhelmed? Sometimes we feel overwhelmed because we take on more than the Lord has given us to do, and we need to be careful about this. Someone told me long ago the Lord equips us to do what He calls us to do. When we take on what doesn’t belong to us, what is not our responsibility, what He hasn’t assigned to us, and we use our resources, including our physical strength, emotional strength, spiritual strength, physical provision like finances, our time, etc., we are out of God’s will, most importantly. And we overwhelm ourselves. And we find the resources we use for what is NOT God’s will we no longer have available to use for what IS God’s will. And we can find ourselves exhausted, irritable, drained, scattered, discouraged, and, yes, overwhelmed! I have done this many times over the years. What about you?
There is a two-fold solution. First, we need to repent of whatever we’ve taken on that the Lord did not give us to do, and of any and all sin that caused us to take it on in the first place, like pride, worry, fear, greed, jealousy, etc., and let it go, and make room in our hearts and lives and free up resources for what He has in fact called us to do. Second, we need to be careful in the future to seek the Lord before we take on new things and make sure He is the one giving them to us.
Feeling overwhelmed? Any possibility you have some repenting to do? Some letting go? Some seeking the Lord about what He wants you to do – and what He wants you not to do? If so, you know what to do. Come before the Lord. Seek Him. Hear Him. And obey Him. To God be all the glory!
