Is Money Your god?

There is nothing wrong with wanting money, nor with working for money, not with earning money, not with having money, nor with spending money – with the two following conditions in mind.

First, money should not be your god! You should not live for it, be bound by it, be consumed with it, live centered around it, be obsessed with it, and/or use it or think or do anything related to money in a way that displeases and dishonors and is disobedient to God. Money should not rule and reign in your life. It should not be in charge of your life. It should not be an idol in your heart and life.

Second, everything to do with money in your life should be in line with God’s ways and God’s will for your life and should be in the context of your life being totally devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and to living to bring God love, praise, honor, joy, pleasure and glory!

If what you are thinking, saying, and doing related to money is in His will and is pleasing and honoring to God, awesome!

If what you are thinking, saying, and doing related to money is NOT God’s will for you and does not please and honor Him, repent and turn to God and to His will for you regarding money and in all matters!

How to know God’s will for you regarding money?

  1. READ THE BIBLE. It is filled with verses and lessons and instructions and warnings concerning money.
  2. Pray to God regarding money matters, listen to His Holy Spirit who lives inside followers of the Lord Jesus Christ speak to your heart regarding God’s personal will for you, and obey Him.
  3. Seek counsel from Jesus followers strongly grounded in the Bible if/as/when God leads you for help discerning God’s will for you.

There is only one true God. Jesus Christ. Forever God. Lord of Lords. King of Kings. If you are loving and serving and living for and being controlled by money as your god, repent and turn to God and His will for you regarding money and in all matters. Amen!

Put your trust in Jesus not in money! Live for Him forever and ever! Hallelujah, AMEN!

The following are just a few verses of many in the Bible concerning money!

“”Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

“And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ‘ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”” Luke 12:15-21 NKJV

“Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!” Mark 10:23-24 NKJV

“He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.” Proverbs 11:28 NKJV

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:10-11 NKJV

“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19 NKJV
