Jesus Opportunities

When I went to an urgent care / walk-in doctor’s clinic concerning my on-and-off-again digestive issues, little did I know what a wild experience I would have and what beautiful Jesus opportunities would come with it.

The staff wouldn’t let me into the medical building due to concern one of my symptoms could be COVID-related which it was apparently not and thus sent me to a port-a-potty in the dark winter night to get a urine sample. Imagine the challenge! I was then sent into a relatively small tent with generator-powered, blinking lights to be soon joined by a man being tested for Covid with only a little curtain separating us! How would I be examined, what kind of privacy would I have, and how safe would I feel given the test the man was getting? I was not comfortable and stood up to leave and run! The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart to sit down. I sat down! The staff when they learned of my discomfort sent me to my car, told me the doctor would come see me there, and my “exam” was through the car window with the doctor. The appointment turned out fine for which I am so very thankful, but that’s not the message, friend. This message is about Jesus opportunities!

See, I was so focused on self I might have missed my Jesus opportunities. But the Lord compelled me to deny self and not miss my Jesus opportunities! Long story short, by the end of my visit, I had given Gospel tracts to the staff and doctor, asked the doctor if he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ to which he replied yes, talked to them about the Lord in one way or another, prayed for the doctor and his family when he went into the building for a few minutes and then told him I did, was told by him they in fact needed prayer, prayed also for the staff as I waited for my “exam”, and left thrilled at the opportunities I would have missed if my heart and eyes had not been open to the Lord and His will for me and if I had remained consumed with myself.

The next day, I needed to go get bloodwork at a different medical facility. I gave Gospel tracts to the ladies that worked there. The lady that drew my blood had to pull the needle out because of a problem. In the past, I would been terrified and upset and probably fled. But I had Jesus opportunities instead when I turned to the Lord. Turns out she needed prayer, shared with me something very personal, and I prayed. She then offered for me to have the other lady draw my blood from my other arm. I stuck out my arm for the second lady, and soon enough I had another Jesus opportunity. This second lady had undergone a great tragedy, and right there in the same little room I got to pray for her just like I had for the first lady. I left with a smile in my heart, band-aids on both arms, and with the thrill of not having missed my Jesus opportunities.

Friend, each and every day of our lives, whenever and wherever we are interacting with others whether in our homes, homeless shelters, prison cells, jobs, schools, on the streets, in banks, medical offices, hospitals, grocery stores, at sports events, churches, office buildings, veterinary clinics, animal shelters, beaches, parks, absolutely wherever, we have Jesus opportunities. In other words, opportunities as the Lord empowers us and leads us to tell the world that the only way to everlasting life with God instead of forever in hell and the lake of fire in torment is through believing Jesus Christ is Lord, that He died on the cross and was raised from the dead to pay our sin penalty, and turning from our sins to God and His ways with a true commitment to live for Jesus now and forevermore. And we have opportunities to love, encourage, pray for, and help believers in Christ as Lord in learning to be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, to read, understand, and live by the Bible, as they and we lovingly, humbly, faithfully follow Jesus day by day!

How often, though, do we miss our Jesus opportunities because we are too consumed with ourselves, too busy, distracted, afraid, ashamed, not interested, not caring, not compassionate, not merciful, etc.?

Friend, this world is in dire need of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we who believe in and follow Him have a responsibility to proclaim Him to the world!

Let us not miss our Jesus opportunities! Amen!
