Unconditional Relationship

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35

One of the greatest blessings I’ve discovered over the years when it comes to my relationship with the Lord is the concept of unconditional relationship. What do I mean? How so? At times I feel especially close to the Lord. At times I feel so very far away. At times I feel His presence. At times I can’t imagine ever feeling His presence again. At times I want to draw closer to Him. At times I am so upset about my life’s circumstances that I feel hurt by God and want nothing more nor less than to pull away and hide away from Him because I am not pleased, sad, discouraged, and feel hurt by His will despite knowing His will is always best.

At times I desperately desire to seek Him. At times, I feel down, exhausted, and like if I spend one more moment seeking Him, I’m just going to hear His Spirit chastening me for yet something else I’ve done or am doing wrong. Do you see a constant in all this? The constant is the inconsistency in my thoughts and feelings – in, specifically, the human heart. So what have I learned with my up and down feelings, with my humanness, when it comes to personal relationship with Christ?

That the very best thing to do is to stay true, to stay committed, to be devoted, to be faithful to, and to be consistent with the Lord every day – NO MATTER WHAT. So every day, no matter how I feel, no matter what I feel, no matter what I experience, no matter my flesh, no matter my feelings, no matter my humanness, I SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD AND IN HIS WORD – NO MATTER WHAT. I don’t base spending time alone with Jesus on my feelings. I base it on the fact JESUS CHRIST IS LORD FOREVER, I am His forever, and I need to make my highest priority in life NO MATTER HOW I FEEL – the Lord!

Friend, have you made this commitment to Christ? Have you turned from your sins, do you believe in Christ as Lord who died on the cross to pay your sin penalty and was raised from the dead, and have you genuinely committed your life to God and His ways? This is the STARTING POINT – NOT the end point. And what you do with your relationship with God once you enter into it through faith in Christ on a daily basis will determine the quality of your relationship to God on this earth as well as what rewards you will receive when you are finished on this earth and spend all of eternity with Him.

Do you spend time with God and in the Bible every day – NO MATTER HOW YOU FEEL? If you do, carry on, friend! If you don’t, may today be a fresh start! AMEN!

In the verse above, Jesus Christ drew away from His everyday life, from others, from life’s circumstances, from whatever He would do that very day, and spent time alone with Father God in heaven.

May we do the same. Daily. Diligently. Devotedly. For the glory of God! And, oh, how we are blessed in the process. Oh, to be in God’s presence. Now, and, forever. Through faith in and a life devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ, AMEN!
