Dear friend,
I was researching possibilities for some much-needed ministry help when I stumbled upon an advertisement online effectively offering to create a video whereby Jesus would say in the video anything the person wanted Him to say. Funny? No. Shocking, devastating, tragic, and a sign of our times, yes. Who are we as humans to put words into the mouth of the Lord and make light and fun of it? How many of us, I wonder, even know how to recognize the voice of the Spirit of the Lord when He speaks?
The Bible, God’s Word, is God speaking to His creation. We can be sure if it’s in the Bible it’s from the Lord. And the Spirit of God who lives inside Christ’s followers speaks to our hearts individually and personally ALWAYS AND ONLY in line with the Bible. The Lord will NEVER speak against His own Word!
As the world on the whole seems to be moving farther and farther away from the Lord Jesus Christ, we need to be diligent about moving closer and closer to Him – including to His Word! You might be surprised how few people I meet who say they are Christians read the Bible on a daily basis if at all. Even countless churchgoers seem to rely on pastors to preach from God’s Word but don’t take the love, time, care, and devotion each and every day themselves to read the Bible and to learn to live by it.
Friend, even as so much of this world has its back turned on the Lord and will pay the ultimate price of spending eternity in hell and the lake of fire unless it turns from its sins and believes in Christ as Lord who died on the cross to pay its sin penalty and was raised from the dead, truly surrendering to God and His ways, we need to be faithful in making the Lord Jesus Christ number one in our hearts and lives. This includes reading God’s Word, learning to recognize His voice, and not putting words into His mouth that are not His!
I encourage you if you haven’t already to make a wholehearted commitment to spend time alone with Jesus and the Bible each and every day for your time on this earth! There is nobody and nothing more beautiful and wonderful and magnificent and glorious in the universe than the Lord God almighty, than having a forever relationship with Him through repentance and faith in Him as Lord with the true devotion that goes along with sincere faith, and than hearing and obeying His voice now and forever!
Let’s not joke around about putting words in Jesus’ almighty mouth. Let’s take seriously His true Word – and live by it!
