“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.” 2 Tim. 3:1-5………..
“Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.” Luke 6:22-23
“Hey miss, can you spare a dollar?” a man called out from across a New York City street early one morning as I walked special needs ministry service doggies 14-year-old Abigail and 7-year-old Gracie.
“Sorry, I don’t do the money thing. But I do the prayer thing if you’d like me to pray for you!” I called out in response.
The street was quiet. Sidewalks were empty. Just me and the dogs and the man across the street begging for money. Then this.
“Oh, F—- you!” the man replied. And off he went looking for someone to give him money.
Friend, our world is in dire straits right now. The Lord shows us in the first scriptures above there would come a time people would be more in love with themselves, pleasure, and money than anything else. Are we not living in those times right now?
I could let something like the way that man treated me stop me from proclaiming the Lord Jesus Christ to the world, but to me that experience just adds more fuel to my fire. My fire for the Lord Jesus Christ and for telling people the only way to a forever relationship with God is through repentance and turning to Christ as Lord.
Those sold out to Jesus should expect hatred, rejection, and persecution. May we let nothing stop us from serving Him. And, no matter how mired in self, pleasure, and money this world becomes, let us boldly, courageously go forth telling this world Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, is our only hope for now and eternity!
