“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess. 5:16-18
I have a beloved friend who if you asked her would probably tell you she doesn’t do enough for the Lord Jesus Christ. She would likely tell you she only does a few little things to serve Jesus, and that most assuredly she needs to do more. But my humble sweet friend leaves out an act of service for Christ she performs continually that is absolutely one of the most important things any of us human beings will ever do in this life.
She prays. And prays. And prays. She prays for loved ones. And strangers. For people near. And those far away. For nations. For revival. For believers in Christ. For those who don’t yet believe. For missionaries. For people whose stories she sees in the news. For people who have turned away from the Lord. For me. For my ministry. For other people’s grandchildren. For her grandchildren. And on and on and on she prays. Day in and day out. She keeps lists of people to pray for. Sometimes she simply lays them all out at once before the Lord. And on she prays. Continually. I tell her about people with whom I cross paths in ministry. She puts them on her prayer list. She will pray for years for some. And on she prays. And prays.
Oh, how the Lord desires for us to pray! And pray! Yes, to pray! What an act of service to Christ prayer is! So do we? Is prayer to God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ part of the very foundation and structure of our lives? May it be so! Let us serve Jesus in our everyday lives however He so leads us day by day. And may prayer be an instrumental part of our lives loving and serving Him and loving and serving others in His name, AMEN!
