If you read the following verse too quickly, you might miss a vitally important word in it concerning love. Please see if the word stands out to you as it stood out to me one day thanks to the Holy Spirit who lives inside God’s followers and whom God promises will teach us.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26 KJV
“Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;” Philemon 1:5 KJV
The apostle Paul is writing of loving the Lord which is God’s greatest command to us all, but this is not all. Speaking of the word “all,” that’s exactly what this message concerns.
Followers of Jesus are to love ALL our fellow Jesus followers! But if we’re honest with ourselves, isn’t it true we tend to love some and not others? That we tend to pick and choose? That some we feel are easy to love and some we determine are impossible to love? That some we want to love and some we have no desire to love? That some we feel hurt and neglected by and don’t feel like loving? That some we neglect to love while others we love, love, love to seemingly no end?
Oh, friend, God commands us to love Him with ALL our hearts – and to love OUR NEIGHBORS as ourselves. Are we to determine whom to love and whom to not love? No! We are to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE – the Lord and others! ALL! Oh, let us love!
Oh, dear Lord, how can we possibly love ALL? The answer is simple, oh Lord. IN YOU, THROUGH YOU, and FOR YOU, we can LOVE, LOVE, and LOVE ALL! Oh, help us to love! Dear Father, help us oh Lord to LOVE! Teach us your ways! Help us obey! Help us to love, my God, thank you, oh Lord, AMEN!
