I immediately thought of a preacher who shared a similar testimony of God’s answer to her prayer, and I wrongly assumed I had just remembered the story she had told. But then I realized the testimonies were different. She had asked the Lord to help somebody with a need, and the Lord had essentially told her to meet that need.
In my case, I assumed I could just wave my magic wand and the Lord would show His love to the person for whom I was praying. But then it came to me. The Lord is in heaven, and I am part of Christ’s body. I have a responsibility in loving the Lord to love His Creation. And rather than just assume God will reign down His love from heaven to shower on the person for whom I had prayed, I understood when the Lord spoke to me that He was calling me to show this person His love.
Oh, but it would be so easy to sit and pray all day and expect the Lord to answer all my prayers for the world’s needs. But then I would be missing God’s two great commands. I am called to love the Lord with all my heart, and I am called to love my neighbor as myself. How can I do this if I just sit back and expect God to do it all without the Body of Christ on earth doing its job to distribute His provision for the world’s need?
When the preacher whose testimony I remembered had asked the Lord to meet somebody’s need, the Lord told her to do it. I do not know what that need was, but I do know that love is a need. And just as the Lord told the preacher to meet that person’s need with His provision, He is calling me – and you – to meet the world’s need for love by distributing His love through faith in Jesus Christ.
I love to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world around me, but the words I share would not suffice without the key ingredient. His love.
