More Peas Please

When I peered into my little hotel room fridge, which I have become well accustomed to given I have been on the road for some years now full-time loving and serving the Lord and others, I saw them! I was thrilled! Wow! What a surprise! I had forgotten about them! What? The peas! Oh, yes, that very day I could eat more peas! Bring on the peas! More peas please! Perhaps you wonder what my peas in their little container could have to do with being thankful to the Lord. Please let me tell you.

Peas are yummy. Peas are healthy. Peas are easy to prepare. Peas have great fiber. Peas are affordable. Peas are perfect when you’re on the road full-time and don’t have a kitchen in your hotel room nor like to cook anyway. Peas are easy to deal with in the microwave. Peas do well in the fridge. Peas fit well into a little cheap dollar store container. And peas are something I once had absolutely no desire for. No interest in. No regard for. Could have cared less about. And certainly was not thankful for.

But God is teaching me day by day to be thankful for all things whether big, small, easy, hard, what I wanted or what I begged Him not to have happen, absolutely whatever it may be, oh yes, He is teaching me to be thankful in all things. And for all things. Even for peas. More peas please!

A beloved friend who has been like a spiritual Mom to me for years pointed out the following verse long ago. It’s a perfect fit for my “more peas please” little testimony – and for each and every day of our lives and forever and ever, AMEN!

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 KJV
