Paralyzed Dog’s Runway: A Lesson

0

“What are you doing all the way down there?” I asked paralyzed ministry dog Miss Mercy.

I love to have little “conversations” with my special needs ministry dogs. I am creative by nature so I have fun doing my “voice” and speaking out loud as their “voices”.

“Mommy, I don’t know. I just landed here,” Miss Mercy replied.

I have a “runway” for Miss Mercy in my hotel room which is a long vinyl runner I bought and put down on the floor so Miss Mercy can scoot around safely on her knees when she is not in her wheelchair without sliding around on the wood flooring.

Miss Mercy is normally on or near the massive dog bed she shares with ministry dog Grace which is right by my bed and desk. But she was currently far away from where she was supposed to be. And now she would need to scoot all the way back down her runway, or Mommy would have to help her return to her usual location.

Miss Mercy’s “response” to me reminded me of how so many of us tend to deal with sinning against God.

I believe lots of the time we act like we just “landed” in sin. As though we had no choice in the matter. Like it is not our fault. As though it was never our intention. Like we did not see the temptation and say yes to it. As though we are therefore not responsible for what we did wrong.

Like if God were to say to us, “What are you doing all the way down there [i.e. in the sin]”, we would just say, “I don’t know. I just landed here.”

We never just “land” in sin. We are 100% responsible for our sin. There are no excuses. Sin is a choice. We can follow and obey Jesus or we can follow the devil and temptation and sin.

Miss Mercy has a runway to scoot down.

We have the pathway of righteousness God sets before us so we can walk with Him down it.

Make the right choice. Choose God. Choose God’s will. Choose righteousness. Choose godliness. Choose holiness. Follow Jesus. Now and forevermore, AMEN!

“…He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” Psalms 23:3 NKJV

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:13-15 NKJV

“Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.” Psalms 17:5 NKJV
