“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10
The Lord always knows what He’s doing. The Lord always knows what He’s saying. It’s not up to us to question Him. It’s up to us to love and obey Him. He always has a plan. He always has a purpose. He always knows what’s best. Oh, if only we would trust Him! If only we would seek Him! If only we would listen for His voice! If only we would be continually in His Word so we would draw closer to Him and learn to recognize His voice! If only when we hear His voice and know it’s His voice we would listen and obey! One day the Lord reminded me of all of this when He blessed me with this sweet little testimony.
I was on my way to the doctor’s office. After a challenging few weeks on many levels, I was thankful to be headed to the doctor so I could make sure I was okay physically and to confirm that the symptoms I had been having were in fact as I sensed a result of extreme stress and anxiety and tough emotional circumstances rather than something physical that needed to be addressed. I was running late thanks to poor phone app directions, and the receptionist when I called recommended using valet parking because the self-parking would mean I would have to walk a long ways. I told her I don’t like valet parking and would prefer the walk. Way far away from the doctor’s office, I found a space. But I continued driving figuring I’d find a better space. I heard the Spirit of God as clear as day tell me to take the parking space I had just driven by. Why would God speak to me about a parking space? I didn’t know, nor understand, but chose to obey. So I backed up and took the space.
It turned out the car directly next to mine had a little bumper sticker. Without my glasses on, I could only see the big “GOD” word. I must have squinted and moved closer, though I don’t recall. I only know the words became utterly clear.
“Be still and know that I am God.” There must have been over 1000 parking spaces in the lot, and the Lord knew exactly which one to send me to. He wanted to remind me He is Lord, He is sovereign, that I ever need to remember to focus on Him, and that I am loved and safe in His everlasting hands.
Perhaps you, too, need to be reminded to be still before the Lord, and to remember He is Lord and greater than any challenge and circumstances on this earth, and that you and I are not in charge nor responsible for the world but simply need to yield our hearts and lives to Him and to the leading of His Spirit. Or perhaps you, too, need the reminder that we need to continually seek His face and humbly obey Him as His awesome Holy Spirit leads Christ’s followers forth.
