I don’t know about you, but I don’t hear the word “gentle” used a lot in this world. To be honest, I don’t hear the word “gentle” used almost ever even among believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am not sure I have ever heard preaching about “gentleness”, and I wonder is it not possible that “being gentle” is something to which we need to pay more attention? Is it not possible “being gentle” is something we need to do more? Is it not possible “gentleness” is something a lot of us need to do a better job of putting into practice – particularly when we feel like being anything but “gentle”?
Most assuredly there is a time to be firm, stern, bold, and strong. And that is when God shows us to be so. But there is also most certainly a time to be gentle. And that, too, is when God leads us to be so.
Gentleness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside His followers. So when we humble ourselves and yield ourselves to the love and power of God’s Spirit, we will bear His fruit – including gentleness.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV
Who is the perfect role model when it comes to gentleness? JESUS!
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
Please, friend, as the Lord so leads you, surrender yourself to the Lord and be gentle. This world is not a very gentle world, is it? May the world see in us the love and gentleness of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
