Resisting God’s Love, Forgiveness, & Goodness

0

Some of us have resisted God’s love, forgiveness, goodness, mercy, kindness, compassion, comfort, companionship, friendship, provision, generosity, etc. because we don’t believe we deserve it. Can you relate? In case you think I am about to pat you on the back as some will do and say, “Well, of course you deserve it all! You’re a good person! You deserve the Lord’s blessings!”, you’re wrong. Instead I must tell you the truth according to the Lord and the Bible.

NONE OF US deserves God’s love, goodness, and endless blessings! Not a single one of us! We are all sinners by nature who because of our sins and His holiness and righteousness deserve the curse He has placed on sinners of death, hell, and the lake of fire in everlasting torment apart from Him!

But He loves us so indescribably much He sent His only Son Jesus to the earth to live a perfect life, to the cross to die the most heinous death to pay for our sins, and raised Him from the dead! So all who turn from our sins and believe in Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, truly turning to God and His ways, are forgiven and given forever life with Him!

We can never measure up to God! We can never do enough to earn His love and forgiveness and all the rest of His blessings! We are nothing without Him! We are hopeless without Him! We don’t deserve anything good from God!

But God loves us so much He wants to love and bless us, to give to us and provide for us, and, most of all, for us to be in His forever and ever presence!

It is BY THE GRACE AND MERCY OF GOD and because of Jesus’ death and resurrection and through our faith in Him as Lord we can receive all the beautiful blessings the Lord has in store for us most importantly being in His forever fellowship!

Now some of us myself included have struggled with resisting the love and blessings the Lord wants to bestow upon us. Imagine sacrificing everything you have and love to buy someone you love beyond measure the most exceedingly wonderful gift only to discover the one you love throws the gift right back at you and refuses to receive it. Imagine how that would hurt and break your heart! After your big sacrifice!

When we refuse God’s love and forgiveness and salvation and all His other blessings after Jesus made the greatest sacrifice anyone in the universe has and will ever make, imagine how that must make Him feel! I can’t even imagine the heartache and heartbreak!

Doesn’t it bless you to bless others? Doesn’t it bless you to have your loved ones excited and thankful to receive what you sacrifice to give them? Imagine how we must bless God when instead of resisting and rejecting His love and other blessings, we gladly and joyfully and thankfully receive Him and them!

Friend, if you’re resisting the Lord and His goodness and greatness, it’s time to stop. Turn from your sins. Believe in Him as Lord. Believe in His death and resurrection. Make a wholesale commitment to God and His ways. Humble yourself before Him. Receive His love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, salvation, and the endless blessings He desires to bestow upon you! And receive, friend, with joy and thanksgiving! Not because you or I deserve the Lord and any of this! But because Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead to so beautifully bountifully blissfully unfathomably abundantly bless us in this way!

Oh, Lord, thank you for teaching me to receive your love and mercy and all you have for me after all the years of resisting you for the reasons I did! Thank you for teaching me how to receive all you have for me! I am hungry and thirsty for more of you and your will for me not to sit back and kick up my feet and enjoy the rest of my life in leisure and luxury, but so that I can be used by you to help people around the world to find and follow you and in the process to receive all you have for them through repentance and faith in and devotion to you, oh dear and most precious almighty Lord! AMEN!
