Seeking God’s Will

SEEKING GOD’S WILL

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15

“What is going on with me today, Lord?” I said aloud as I walked away from my laptop computer to get the rest of my breakfast, somewhat frustrated that no matter how hard I had tried to write my Daily Inspiration, I couldn’t seem to make any headway. Then, clear as day, I heard the Lord speak into my heart. “Have you asked me what I want you to write today?” I couldn’t help but laugh. How can we do the will of God if we don’t know the will of God? Back to my knees I went. I had wanted the Lord to help me with what I wanted to do. Now I needed to start again and ask Him what He wanted me to do. By the time I got up from my knees, I had the answer. How foolish it is to expect the Lord to give us the strength and provision to do our own will instead of trusting the Lord to provide everything we need to do His will once we know what His will is.

God doesn’t want us to wave our little magic wands at Him with the expectation He will magically fulfill our every desire and that He will provide us with what we need to fulfill our own will. He wants us to humble ourselves, come before Him, seek His face, study His Word, listen for His voice, and pray – and act – according to His will. What peace I had once I went to my knees, sought His face, heard Him speak quietly into my heart, and responded in obedience. I was no longer stuck. He not only showed me His will, but He provided everything I needed to obey Him.

Instead of running around to a zillion people seeking their advice, or mulling something around in your head for countless hours trying to figure it all out, humble yourself before the Lord, dig into His Word, seek His face, listen – and obey. If you need counsel from others to discern His voice, check what they tell you against the Bible to make sure it is from Him. He will never speak against His own Word.
