The Big Wait Word

Wait isn’t a big word, is it? It’s only four letters after all. But oh, for some of us, it is a really, really big word. For some of us, it’s really hard to wait due to our impatience, worry, excitement, zeal, our feeling like we need to figure everything out and do it NOW, to those of us who pridefully believe we know what’s best and feel we must rush ahead, to those of us uncomfortable or unhappy where we currently are, etc. We’re not all so great when it comes to waiting, are we? But friend, let me tell you something. When it’s the will of God for us to wait, no matter His reasons, no matter how we feel about the matter, no matter how much we might want to rush forward, we need to humble ourselves and in our love for the Lord obey the Lord – and WAIT.

Please don’t think waiting means we are to sit around and do nothing. When the Lord gives us a waiting season, we have an awesome opportunity not just to wait. But to wait on Him. To spend time with Him, to read the Bible, to grow in our relationship with Him, to pray, seek Him, and hear Him, to be transformed by Him, to be prepared and strengthened by Him, to be refreshed, renewed, and revived by Him, to deepen our trust in Him, to do whatever He gives us to do right here right now where we already are in life, and to spend time simply experiencing and enjoying and rejoicing in His presence and praising and worshiping Him and singing to Him. Oh, yes!

Be encouraged with this, friend:

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalms 27:14

And perhaps you know this well-known verse:

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Please, friend, when the Lord tells you to WAIT, then WAIT! Obey Him in all things, including when it comes to the big WAIT word! And if you’ve already gone running ahead, turn to the Lord, seek and receive His forgiveness, pray about what He wants you to do now that you ran ahead, WAIT for Him to answer, and obey Him! Even if what He tells you to do next is to WAIT! Amen!
