The Jesus Diet – Lose the Weight

4
You’ve heard it all before, haven’t you? This diet. That diet. Whichever diet. Diet, diet, diet. Lose weight this way. That way. Any way. Just lose it. Just do it, right? Which diets have you tried? Which one will you try next? And will you keep the weight off? Let me give you a disclaimer with the diet I’m about to recommend to you. I’m not an expert – at all. I’ve had a longtime history of an on-again, off-again eating disorder. So by all means don’t consider me a pro. I may not be an expert, or a pro for that matter, but I’ve got a phenomenal nugget of wisdom to offer you. And if you haven’t heard it before, you ain’t heard nothing yet. And if you’ve heard it, and keep forgetting to do it, let this be your reminder to get right back to it. Ever heard of the Jesus Diet? I know. It doesn’t rank up there with Weight Watchers and whatever the latest diet trend is these days, but that’s because the Jesus Diet isn’t about calories and scales and the kind of weight you’re thinking about at all. Need to lose some weight? Don’t we all.

If you’re carrying excess weight, and burdens, and troubles, and stresses, and anything and everything that’s weighing you down, do you know what the Lord has to say about it?

The Lord Jesus Christ, who got up on that cross to die a horrifically gruesome death to pay the penalty for our sins and to bear the wrath of God for us, took the weight of the world on top of Himself. When we repent from our sins and confess Him as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead, He calls us to follow Him and to learn to take His yoke instead of our own. Absolutely amazing. I have yet to meet a human being on this earth who would take the weight of another human the way Jesus invites us to do. The next time you find yourself carrying around a bunch of extra weight, turn to Jesus. Lay aside your weight and sin, cast your cares on Him, and take His yoke instead. The Jesus Diet. There ain’t nothing else like it.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,… – Hebrews 12:1 ESV

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-29 ESV
