The Life You’ve Been Called to Live

“By faith Moses…refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” Hebrews 11:24-26

The last thing I ever thought I would do is live a solitary life, yet that is exactly the life to which God has called  me. I love people, relationships, marriage, and family, yet due to some tough circumstances and God’s call on my life, I spend most of my time on my own loving and serving Him, seeking Him, studying His Word, writing devotionals, caring for 16 mostly special needs & senior rescued dogs, running my ministry, and being available to Him 24-7. In the interactions I do have with people, I am an evangelist right down to my bones. I have come to find learning to truly follow Christ is NOT about what we want nor how we feel, but about love, devotion, and total abandon to the Lord – no matter the cost to our flesh.

I have a choice, you know, and so do you. I could forsake the solitary life to which I have been called and live a life of enjoyment, fun, pleasure, and dive deep into the me-centered ways of this world as I did for so many years. Or, I can forsake my fleshly desires, sacrifice the life I wanted, and live my life to love, serve, and please the Lord. We all have this choice – to live exclusively for ourselves or to deny our selfish ways and live for the Lord.

Moses, born a Jew, was adopted into Pharaoh’s family and could have lived a life of infinite worldly pleasure. But he forsook this world’s ephemeral riches to fulfill God’s calling. He had a “secret” – the one I have discovered. No pleasure on this earth can compare with the endless riches, infinite exuberance, and forever hope of eternity with the Lord –  and the joy and satisfaction of loving and serving Him right now.

Is there anything or anyone in your life you are holding onto that is keeping you from fully living the life God has called you to live? Are you willing to let go – for Him?
