The Squirrel & the French Fry

Hop, hop, hop. Squirrels may not exactly hop, but this one had a happy hop to his step as he came out of a trash can. No wonder. Off he scurried with what looked to be a yummy French fry held in his little paws. Okay, squirrels may not have paws. But after decades of extreme dog rescue, I am used to paws. This message is not about hopping and paws anyway. It is about what God reminded me through the squirrel with the French fry.

Early morning. Walking my special needs ministry dog Grace. Singing aloud to the Lord Jesus Christ even as the devil came at me with his morning dose of attempting to get me overwhelmed, stressed, and fearful about this or that. Then came the squirrel.

God’s reminder to be glad, to be thankful, to be content, to be trusting in Him. See, that squirrel could not have been more content, happy, and thankful with nothing more than what appeared to be a single leftover French fry. Not a worry in his little mind about the future. Just enjoying a new day created by God.

Maybe you need this reminder also. Let us put our trust in Jesus each day. Let us be glad and rejoice. Let us be thankful. And let us enjoy and praise God for His really big blessings most of all God Himself and also for the little blessings like a single French fry.

“This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:24 NKJV

“Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” 1 Timothy 6:6-8 NKJV

“Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” Psalms 37:3 NKJV
