THIS Is How to Obey God

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.” John 5:19-20……………

“For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”” John 12:49-50…………

Obedience isn’t doing NONE of what God tells us to do, is it? That’s pretty obvious, right? But we need to not stop there. Obedience isn’t doing SOME of what God tells us to do. When you think about it, it makes sense, doesn’t it? God wants us to do ALL of what He tells us to do. But now let’s go one giant step further. Obedience isn’t doing what God tells us to do AND THEN ADDING OUR WILL TO THE MIX. In other words, when God tells us to do something, He doesn’t want us to obey Him and then take a bunch of extra steps in our own will, or say a bunch of things He hasn’t asked us to say after we’ve said what He’s asked us to say, or to say, whew, good, thank God, now I’ve done what He’s told me to do, so I’ll just do A, B, and C because I think it would be a good idea to do this also.

Jesus Christ gives us the perfect example of obedience. He did and said what God the Father told Him to do and say. Not less. Not more. He humbly submitted Himself to the Father and obeyed.

We who follow the Lord Jesus Christ need to be so yielded to the Lord and so in tune with and sensitive to the Spirit of God by spending time with God continually, being in His presence and His Word daily, that we learn more and more how to discern His voice and leading and more and more as His beloved sheep choose to seek, hear, and obey our Good Shepherd, our loving Father, our blessed Master, Savior, redeemer and Lord, not for our sakes, not for self, not for our own pleasure, but in love, reverence, and obedience to God almighty who promises His faithful followers forevermore with Him.

I encourage you to read the verses above in context if you are so led. I use them merely to reveal how submitted Jesus Christ was in actions and in words to our blessed Father in heaven.
